I feel like the protests will get bigger.
Trump and his administration are awful, evil, heartless, immoral humans
He was poor so it’s ok, apparently.
I suspect the main reason they don’t want to bring him back is that they’re afraid he’ll talk.
I mean, not to sound apathetic, but what did people expect? We knew Trump was a bloodthirsty, racist, idiot wannabe dictator. Millions of people are going to die as a result of him being elected, at the bare minimum.
This is what Americans wanted so let’s just hope it burns fast and hot so the idiots can finally learn how fucking evil Republicans are. I’d like to get to the new deal side of this ASAP.
Heart broken. Furious. So disappointed. Disgusted. Saying prayers every night for freedom, liberty, love, and peace
I feel like more people, especially those that are vocal, will start disappearing.
Trump is a scumbag. The guy in the story is a Salvadoran national.
Death of due process. Republicans, GoP and MAGA in their current shape are comlicit or actively engaging in anti-constitutional behavior.
However you want to defend it, you’re a traitor to the constitution and your fellow Americans.
It’s a disgrace
I want Trump deported to the same prison after he is impeached a 3rd time.
Having read comments from his supporters when shown videos of kids in handcuffs I’d say half of them wouldn’t give a shit, and would probably actively cheer for it
What US citizen
I feel like people need to stop using r/askreddit as a vehicle for posting inflammatory headlines under the guise of genuine curiosity.
what citizen is that?
Is this about Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia? AFAIK he’s not an American citizen, but a Salvadoran national with legal protection against deportation to El Salvador.
No less scary, though. If non-citizens aren’t entitled to due process, then neither are citizens. How, you ask? Because if the government claims you’re a non-citizen, then you have no opportunity to prove you’re a citizen. Legal protections for the marginalized also protect the rest of us.
This American citizen would give anything for this administration to be disappeared to El Salvador….
He’s dead. That’s why. They sent him to his death.
I’d prefer trump dissappear.
I figure a lot of people here won’t care until the economy is so fucked 50% of us can’t survive here without working ourselves half to death. They don’t care that people with citizenship are being disappeared or sent to death camps. They won’t care until it happens to them or their comfort is disrupted.
Your post is wrong. It wasn’t an America. Citizen but an immigrant who had legal status here.
I don’t recall seeing such a case for a US citizen.
Can you provide a source?
I’ve seen a case for a US resident.
Abrego Garcia is not an American citizen, but a Salvadoran National and entered the US illegally in 2011.
Which American citizen are you referring to?
Genuinely curious, what happens if Trump defies the judges order?
More protests. I’d rather die standing on my feet than die on my knees, bowed to a king.
We’ve gone to comic book villain territory, and there are too many people enabling his pure evil
He wasn’t an American citizen. He is an El Salavdor national from my understanding. Still fucked up though
I’m upset that ANYONE was sent. I’m upset that there are people in my life that are okay with it. It’s wrong on so many levels and at this point I’ve decided that our elected officials don’t actually care about our constitution.
Scared, it means no one is safe from the goons in charge.
Not that it remotely does what they did right, but was the guy in TPS instead of a citizen. AFIK, citizens have rights even when outside the US, and green card holders have some rights, but otherwise it would take action from the government to get him back. They have been ordered to do so by a judge, and are defending their position to not do so.
He’s an abomination and a smear to the Constitution but we did it to ourselves. What happens when more than half the nation chooses to sit back and watch. They especially deserve what’s coming.
What I feel about Trump I can’t post here. I’ll get banned
Makes my blood boil.
Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia is a Salvadoran national who resided in Maryland. DOJ have admitted their error. (DOJ) attorney Erez Reuveni, who said he had not even brought that order, later asked for 24 hours to convince his bosses to return the Salvadoran national to the USA. A judge ordered he be returned no later than April 7th.
There was no proof of the individual being a member of ms 13. The Justice Department has admitted the deportation was an error. The Justice Department now indicates they cannot bring him back due to lacking the power to do so. So much for the power of the American government.
Sick to my stomach. I’m starting to wonder why they’re dragging their feet on bringing him back so hard. Is it that they won’t, or can’t? And I don’t mean can’t for some bullshit reason like “oh he’s no longer in our custody.”
It’s shameful
He promised dictator from day 1 and he his holding true to that. And, maga still supports him.
Disappointed and disgusted
I’m not against places like CECOT as long as the people going there are the type who deserve to be there. You can’t just send people there because they violated some policy, or because of some mistake in paperwork. It needs to be for the people who have actually committed acts of terrorism.
Really bad! It’s really bad!
Sick.
I feel like it was a test to set a precedent for sending other citizens off to prisons and labor camps for simply dissenting.
I feel like it’s not going to make one bit of a difference. The red states are in control and non republicans have zero plans of even making them sweat.
Even before this, I hate the Trump administration and every single thing it stands for.
Fuck Trump and his nazi regime & followers.
Pretty shitty. That they will deny anyone due process of the kind of shit that starts real trouble, as it should be. Organized protests of the size we’ve seen since can only be ignored by FauxNews for so long. It’ll be interesting to see if Agent Orange backs down or doubles down. His horseshit tariffs seem to have disturbed his base more than his human rights abuses. They won’t talk about it, but I would guess his base is starting to see real erosion. I’d be glad to see this be the tipping point. We shall see. He has repeatedly shown that he can survive doing shit that would tank regular politicians. Having that base of absolute drooling sycophants helps.
Enraged.
They’ll be many more in the concentration camps before this is over. Pretty soon Americans will be denouncing each other to prove their loyalty to The Leader.
According to the reports they aren’t refusing the order but are incapable of doing what it orders. It’s unfortunate and they probably should have had a contingency plan in the deal with El Salvador for cases like this. With the mass amount of illegal immigrants and foreign criminals needing to be dealt with it was inevitable something like this would happen and it’s a bad showing for them that they didn’t make plans for this.
That guy wasn’t an American citizen.
I don’t like it, but accuracy in reporting is important. Your title is incorrect
I saw it’s about time we take back our government
Which American citizen are you referring to?
I hope he gets to experience El Salvadorian prison firsthand.
I feel like the guy is a scumbag. If they bring him back, it’ll be to put him in prison.
The person who sent him there should be jailed until they retrieve him.
It’s real fucked up.
Rage bait
And yet the mail order bride is still around. Go figure, rules for thee, not for bastards.
I can accept idiot tax policy. I can accept idiot tariffs. I can accept idiot cuts. I can not accept this. This is too far. Due processes is all that protects us from our government.
Artillery bombardment will continue until moral improves.
Horrified and outraged, not just at the administration but at the people who voted for Trump and the people who couldn’t be arsed to vote at all. Trump made no secret of what he’d do if elected, and those people put him in power anyway.
I actually wanted to make an askreddit for this, but how is it that they claim that they can’t bring him back? What is the argument they are using and what law, if any, is the basis of this?
Why can’t they simply just call El Salvador and say “Hey, release that guy?” – They sent him there and, to my knowledge, the prisoner has broken no laws in El Salvador
At this point, I feel like the answer is kind of known 1/3 of us think it’s absolutely ridiculous. 1/3 of us support Donald Trump and the other third have no fucking clue what’s going on.
😠 OUTRAGED
Horrified. What’s happening is my absolute worst nightmare. I wish I could take my family and leave the country, but not able to do that because of jobs and obligations.
Trump a traitor to the Constitution. Defend our country from domestic terrorists ie GOP and Trump.
I feel that someone needs to disappear trump
I think most won’t readily assume this could happen to them. Ads should show how due process is individually important. And only show how it affects white people. Too much of right wing BS is VERY good at separating those they target from Maga supporters or ableists
It especially bothers me that most of the headlines and news stories refer to him a “Maryland Man” or “Married Maryland Man” or “American Citizen.” He has a name – Kilmar Abrego Garcia – and he is a person. A human being who loves his family and has aspirations and dreams for his life, just like the rest of us.
Kilmar Abrego Garcia!
Idk. I truly don’t. I feel like online misinformation and downplaying/normalizing how fucked up his behavior and actions are truly has melted some of my fellow americans brains.
If you talk about this administrations SPRINTING into repeating fascist policies that we can see from past events, it’s just “Orange man bad” or “You only dislike him for personal reasons” or whataboutism From “But Biden” all the way back to “DID YOU KNOW THE DEMOCRATS OWNED SLAVES 300 years ago”
I’ve had one guy I know IRL accuse me of “harrassing” him when I pointed out that he shouldn’t have voted for a man LITERALLY using “Kill all the Queers” nazi symbols, as a crossdresser with an NB partner.
I proceeded to point out that maybe he shouldn’t have his Reddit username where he talks ‘libertarian” politics be the same as his crossdressing fetlife username with pictures of himself, literally doxxing himself.
Feel bad for the wrongfully disappeared man. Lets trade him for Trump
We all need to be pissed off and horrified by this. Due process, and “innocent until proven guilty”, is one of the last objectively good things about America. It’s so absolutely absurd to think anyone is in favor of this. Honestly- I think the violation of someone’s Due Process rights should be It’s own crime. If you send someone to jail (slave camp in this scenario) with no due process- you should be given time, and they should be heavily reimbursed. I don’t just want us to get this guy back- I want us to make him rich in the process, because what happened to him is fucked up. I saw the video of the whole El Salvador transfer. That shit is beyond terrifying, they were treated like super villains and one of those dudes didn’t even do anything! It’s fucked and I’m beyond pissed. Bring him the fuck back. How fucking dare they enslave someone and try to write it off as a goddamn “whoopsie”.
I see it like this. The United States have multiple MS13 and other very very violent gang members who were promoted to come to the United States. It has gotten horrible in some areas of cities now. This administration went on the offensive and got rid of some of the most violent horrible people on the earth. If a mistake was made and I am sure there will be mistake made, they can be corrected.
What we have right now is many many dudes gone that are now no longer causing major problems in areas. Something I thought I would never see in my lifetime was foreign gang members basically owning apartment complexes and breaking into rooms to kill people. In America….. Something must be done.
My thoughts? United States has the dumbest citizens in all the developed world
It’s aome dystopian bullshit. I would not be taken alive to that hellhole
Foreigners to Americans of reddit, find a way to cure your boredom and mind what’s going on in your own country 👍
Anyway, to fellow Americans, has anyone seen that wonderful video of the pilot shouting out an iwo jima veteran on the plane for his bday🥹 ( now that’s real america not our politics but US as people )
Not fucking great.
Scared shitless. Buried in the text of all those executive orders, assuming a court would interpret them as actual law over the Constitution, are several different ways habeas corpus could be considered suspended, and this is the execution of it. I fear a day when ICE just confiscates our IDs and ships off dissenters. No ID because it’s been taken? Gosh must be an illegal.
Outraged beyond reason. It’s a flagrant violation of human rights and legal rights guaranteed by both the Constitution and the SCOTUS’ rulings. All laws become suggestions when unenforced, and egotists like DJT don’t listen to suggestions. It’s a harbinger of what’s to come – the public at large doesn’t care about immigrants or people of color, but brutality doesn’t stay in their communities.
But i’m impotent. I’m one person in a MAGA stronghold state. I write to the congress critters, I talk to my circle about this shit, I try to challenge people’s thinking. But ultimately? My vote is 1/160,000,000 of the democracy outcome, and I have to remember that America Asked For This. They knew who he was. They knew how bad it would get, at least a little. And they still voted for This.
We Deserve What’s Coming.
Not good!
Americans didn’t care when Obama executed an American citizen with a drone strike. You think they care about a deportation?
Bad. It feels bad.
Not that it makes it any less fucked up, but he isn’t a citizen, he’s a legal resident with awork visa.
Distoring the facts just hands an easy win to people who want to defend this bullshit.
We’d like to disappear Trump in this manner.
Roughly half the country voted for him 3 times in a row. Collectively, we are not very smart. We get deserve everything we get. Unfortunately, the orange shit ball rolls down hill and is affecting the entire world now.
https://youtu.be/qxsQ7jJJcEA?si=VXdksCj7tgTxcmg0
We’ve always been an evil country. We’re just reverting back to the mean after the post WW2 fever dream.
Offended. It’s as text book affront to what America is supposed to be.
That being said, we voted for this. Nothing Trump has done this term is surprising.
I am fearful for those innocent people who were illegally sent to El Salvador. If we the people don’t apply ever increasing pressure to those responsible it will only get much worse and more widespread.
Fight like your life depends on it. Because it does.
I feel it’s a test. Trump is constantly pushing to see what he can get away with. He does this… says it’s a mistake, but hey, it’s in the hands of another country, so what can he do? And if that sticks then he’ll start pushing for the next level: then the next. Frog in a pot of slowly boiling water until we have 1984/Gilead.
This was one of the top thoughts in my mind when I went to my state capitol yesterday. I’m horrified by what is being done to him and his family, and I’m pretty sure he’s just the tip of the iceberg. I was thinking about the monsters who created a documentary grade video, orchestrated for maximum horror, showing the dehumanization of those supposed gang members. It was intended to scare everyone who’s thinking of resisting.
The same way I feel about all the other people the U.S. government has illegally “disappeared”. Namely, disgusted and embarrassed.
The regime is going to ruin a lot of people.
I’m angry because the same idiots who didn’t vote are complaining NOW that shit sucks. Now that everything is a raging chemical fire, people are out with hand fire extinguishers.
Damn it’s fucking infuriating.
Just a reminder that the Boston tea party revolt happened due to tariffs on tea
I don’t care if they are US citizens or undocumented migrants, they should not be sent to El Salvador, Panama, or Guantanamo Bay and denied due process.
Can someone please explain how these protest are going to effect change? As long as they are still spening money then it won’t effect anything, people need to cancel they subscriptions, apps to the billionaires companies
It’s terrifying, but expected.
It made me think of the time Obama unilaterally assassinated a US citizen with a drone in Yemen. Then his own Justice Department was like “Nah, its fine”. It was the first known and admitted extra-judicial killing of a US citizen in history. He was certainly a terrorist sympathizer and propagandist, but there was no evidence he committed any actual violence against the US.
By similar reasoning, the US could start drone striking any number of US citizen Hamas sympathizers and propogandists today, as long as they were on foreign soil.
This situation reminds me of that. A huge overstep by the executive branch against a US citizen and a black eye for the US.
swell. real great. what reply are you hoping get?
Rev Niemoller “and then they came for me”.
Donald Trump is the biggest piece of shit walking the planet right next to Putin. Absolute piece of shit.
The purpose of due process is to prevent this. Ignoring the Constitution is wrong!
Sick to my stomach. Virtually helpless
I’m genuinely so confused about the legal status he had in this country.
He is not a US citizen, so he needed some sort of visa to stay here. He was denied asylum in 2019, which means removal proceedings should have started against him at some point.
But he did have a work permit. I don’t know what kind or how because he was not in a highly specialized field of work (ie PhD, MD, etc). But does his work permit override his asylum denial? I don’t get how someone can legally work in a country that has denied them residence.
I do think it’s wrong that he was deported to El Salvador because a judge ruled he would be in danger if he went back. But on the other hand he is literally a citizen of El Salvador. Could the government of El Salvador gotten upset with the US if they found out we deported their citizen to somewhere not his country of origin?
I’m trying to read and research but there is so much conflicting information about this guy’s case.
Call it what it is. Tyranny. Sic semper tyrannis
His case was, of course, misreported in the press. That was followed up by even more propaganda. He has been here illegally for 11 years, he has committed crimes in this country, a judge found it credible that he was a member of “tren”. Yes, he was on a hold and should not have been sent back, he shouldn’t have been here under any circumstance. I’m Hispanic, my parents and their family waited 10 years for permission to come here LEGALLY with qualifications such as medical degrees. I have very little sympathy for people here illegally, and less for those that that break the law on top of that when they are here. These people don’t tend to live with the white Upper east side NY, Nantucket liberals when they are here acting idiotic and committing crimes. They are around people like me and my family and we have to deal with them every day. I’m glad he’s gone.
It should be horrifying, but there seems to be a “meh” reaction from the right.
I have to wonder if they would have felt the same if Biden rounded up the January 6th rioters following their convictions and shipped them off to foriegn prisons as “enemies of the state.”
We have a legal system for checks and balances. The executive branch is not immune, and there should never be presidential immunity.
Propaganda.
The party of no law and disorder.
Not good, I feel very not good
Everybody – EVERYBODY – should be outraged by this. What started off as incompetence has turned into what, cruelty, disregard, uncaring?
Hoping someone in a high position goes to jail for not complying with a legal order.
It’s terrifying
nothing surprises me. guy is probably already dead, and they know it. they’ll stall forever. any other president did this, and there’d be gallows erected for him.
Literally criminal. An impeachable offense that should lead to imprisonment.
Republicans have no balls though. They’re cucks for Trump.
Scared
It’s pretty fucked up and if we had a congress with any balls, it wouldn’t be happening.
Unfortunately we have a republican majority in both the house and the senate, and there aren’t enough folks willing to do anything, so we’re just kind of fucked on multiple fronts until midterms at the very least.
I feel like he needs to be tried for crimes against humanity.
How do you feel about all of these how do you feel posts that are really just headlines?
despondent, angry and horrified.
Do you mean how I really feel knowing that they do whatever it takes to break and not follow laws?
I feel we’re screwed because it shows they are willing to do whatever it takes to ensure they have control over everything and everyone in the US. Our only recourse is to resist in mass.
What happened? Is this the Maryland dad?
They have until the end of Monday to return him. If they don’t and the judge finds them in contempt, let’s see what happens. At some point, I think this case should be the one that lets the American people know what we must do next.
Horrifying. Our Constitution states everyone in our country & it DOES NOT say US citizens only but ANYONE in our country is entitled to due process. If they can do this to a legal resident, they can do it to a US citizen.
