Any surprises in retirement

r/

Asking those that have retired. I’m planning on going in September. That would give me 23 years at my current agency and I was able to buy 3 and have 1.5 years at another agency prior (27.5 total). I’d be a month past my 51st birthday in September. Recently lost another co worker who was young (54) this week which has motivated to pull it and try a dayshift job since my entire run has been graves. I will get another job since I can’t sit around bored. Married. 3 kids. Youngest is 17.

I’m a ways away yet but old enough to know a lot that have. Your “brothers” forget you very very quickly. The close friends and coworkers you thought you had forget you very quickly once you’re not at work every day.
