I don’t know what it is, it’s like walking into a department store like victoria secret or like going into a beauty salon. I feel embarrassed being there…I don’t know I’m weird

No, never experience this. Are you expecting that they will think you don’t belong? Why? Do you come from a disadvantaged background and the place seems too fancy?
You shouldn’t be? I definitely don’t. It’s a public business, if you want to step inside for a coffee why not? Is it because you haven’t ordered there before?
If you’re not used to going there, or if you’re under an impression that workers and customers of Starbucks are part of a group of people that you don’t feel like you’re a part of, then these might be reasons why you feel this way.
Starbucks isn’t that special. Don’t let a generic coffee chain intimidate you.
I worked at Starbucks for a long time… You are not alone! The menu can be super intimidating. It is purposely designed to just highlight the new drinks and it can be very hard to figure out what to order.
I sort of stopped going to Starbucks, what with all the union busting.
Yes, agree. I’ve been going there for years and I still feel awkward walking in. I can get comfortable when I have my drink and sit down though.
Once they changed it up, asking me to leave a tip before I even finish pronouncing my order, I stopped going
No, but I never give them my real name to write on the cup.
No, but I get it. The menu is a little complex and a little bit hidden (not all the options are laid out for you) and everyone wants their order asap and seems to know exactly what they want. It can be a lot if you aren’t used to it.
political reasons aside I can understand having trouble going to a certain store. I can’t go to one grocery store chain where I live because of multiple factors. Exposure may be the cure, it could be a social anxiety from the fact people are there just kinda hanging out and getting work done. I would also say if you don’t like going into a starbucks, nothing is stopping you from going to a local mom and pop cafe or a different place to get caffeine. Mcdonalds is one of the largest sellers of coffee in the country.
Haven’t been in years. Their drinks taste like water.
When I saw flies in their food case and then they proceeded to sell that food that’s when I got uncomfortable.
I loved it when there were chairs and people were sitting around working or chatting or reading. Now I go in to my favorite Starbucks from uni and it’s a bare concrete floor. Only one stand up bar and two chairs for people waiting for Dasher deliveries. They said it’s because people just pick up now and they had trouble with people camping the chairs.
It’s spooky in there, like I accidentally wandered into a plumbing warehouse instead of a coffeehouse. I still have a credit on my Starbucks account I haven’t used because SB was a destination for me to spend time reading or doing art, not just grab a cup of coffee that took two buses to go get.
I miss the old place where you knew the baristas and they were happy to see you. Now it’s like “What? Name? Stand over there.” No wonder they’re losing money and customers.
I think places in general make you feel uncomfortable, especially places that turn to you to make a definite decision about something.
All the places you mentioned have employees that require you to understand what you want and verbalize it to them.
I wouldn’t feel comfortable going in there because I don’t like coffee. The one time I was in there, (it’s been almost 20 years ago now. I’d only just graduated high school and was visiting a friend who suggested we meet there) I had to try and stare at the menu board for what felt like ages because I was looking for something that wasn’t coffee.
It’s an entirely different planet in there
I could be in a very blue collar focused neighborhood, and walk into one of those and just see nothing but yuppie trust fund nerds , carved out of cream cheese in that store
I’d use the drive thru, but it’s literally longer to go through that than in person
Is it possible you have been programmed to be embarrassed? Have you consumed social media propaganda telling you to be embarrased?
It might be the genocide. Or labor busting.
no
Not really. Then again, I’ve been going into the same Starbucks for a few years and I know everyone who works there and they know me.
I always get uncomfortable in Victoria Secret because I’m hella gay and maybe a bit autistic. Big pictures of women in underwear with that eye effect that makes you feel like they’re watching you. I also get uncomfortable in certain grocery stores that are really busy and have the high shelves and narrow aisles.
I don’t go there anymore. Too poor
Yes, but only because the stores always seem so damn cramped. Even when I put in a mobile order and pick it up in store, everyone is in each other’s way because there isn’t enough room for everyone. I get in and out as quickly as possible.
Hipsters, soccer moms, homelrss people and overpriced shitty coffee. Hard pass.
Stop going to Starbucks! It’s a shit company serving a shit product!
Starbucks feels like the epitome of Millennials to me, and the customers I see there usually confirms this to me lol
I feel a little anxious in any place where I feel like people expect me to know how to order/what I want because it’s a popular place, especially when it’s busy.
sounds like social anxiety.
ask yourself this, do you care that there are other people in Starbucks ordering coffee? probably not, right? that’s how most other people feel as well.
