Apartment in Texas continuously charges my account. Right now there is a huge situation going on and I’m curious if theres anything legal I can do against it.

My location: San Antonio, Texas.
I live in an apartment that I have had troubles with before. There will be random charges like $30 or a random $88 due for something. There are no receipts or anything that indicates what I’m paying for and why. Those are small fees though and easy to pay. Situation time:

A few days ago, I noticed a $1000 charge which is waaay wrong. I knew a part of it is my rent but there was nothing on my portal that told me where the extra $400 came from. I had to go to the office and ask and they said it was because my room got a new dresser. Which is incorrect. I asked my roommates to see if maybe they got the replacement and the charge was wrong but no, no one in my unit order or got a dresser replacement. Additionally, there was no request for it in the maintenance history. I asked the office to take the charge off since I don’t have the thousand, I only have my rent. They told me I had to pay the thousand first, then send a separate email to a different place to dispute the charge to get my refund, which mind you takes 45 days for some reason. I told them that its unfair to 1) pay for something I didnt even get let alone request and 2) cant just pay my rent alone without the random charge. They told me that thats the only way. Even though its THEIR mistake I have to pay for, which I can’t even do. No one is answering my calls, nor my emails and I now am getting late fee charges because Im not able to pay my rent. Im curious if there is anything I can do like suing them or something. Any advice would be much appreciated!

I would issue a chargeback via your credit/debit card company and notify your landlord in writing that that process has now started and your expectation is they reverse the charges immediately.
