Apartment maintenance workers called me slurs, used my clothing to clean up gray water and stole from me

I had to call emergency maintenance at two AM due to my sink backing up and flooding the kitchen with gray water.

When the worker got to my apartment they were recording voice messages on their phone. I heard them say “joto, joto, pinche major.”

I asked them if they just called someone a major asshole and they gave a bizarre answer about how if you’re going out dancing with a friend you can call them that. I just stared at them in disbelief and then they sheepishly said something about a job being difficult.

They were being very loud and exaggerated while snaking the pipe. I had headphones half on while they worked.

They recorded more notes calling me a “maricon” and a “gringo.”

The sink was still backing up when they left.

They came into my apartment when i called to them, saw the flood, said they’d be back and left the property.

I was bailing out buckets of water all night.

The next day i left to get away from the smell and got a call that a plumber had arrived. I gave them permission to enter because the sink was still backed up.

When i got home there was a mysterious wet footprint in my bedroom closet.

I didn’t realize it at the moment (went straight to bed) but they had gone into my closet, picked up bedsheets, underwear, and dress shirts at the foot of my dresser and used them to clean up the sewer water. Then the put them back on the floor of my closet.

The smell has sunk into my closet and my clothes. I can’t go in there without gagging.

At first i thought i misplaced some lighters, then i realized other small items like a favorite hat were missing.

I had already sent an email about being called slurs, and then sent them pictures of the ruined sheets and clothes.

Management won’t respond to me.

I filed a claim with the local govt about facing discrimination, but they said it will take 5 weeks.

Is there anything else I can do?

I don’t understand why they did this. I wasn’t rude.

    Some people are just arsehats.

    1. You can file a police report for the theft and destruction of property. Letting them in doesn’t make it a civil issue, though don’t be surprised if the police do so, they like to be lazy. Don’t be afraid to come back and try again if you can get a different officer.
    2. If you have renter’s insurance and the value of the lost items is above your deductible you can make a claim for the damages. The insurance may sue the landlord for their losses.
    3. If the landlord won’t reimburse you can sue for your actual value of your stolen and lost items.
