I’m trying to apply for a position at my local Sheriff’s Office, however they want the SSNs of all three of my roommates. I’m worried they wouldn’t provide them to me and if then, am I out of luck in filling this application?
I understand why it’s important and two of my roommate’s have clean records. My third roommate has a dui and his license is suspended/revoked. He had 5-6 charges against him for driving with a suspended/revoked license, driving with an open container, failure to appear, driving with expired registration (I haven’t gotten into details with him). Would this affect my chances. Can I provide names and birth dates instead? Should I ask the agency before applying?

Provide as much info as possible and be ready to talk explain why you couldn’t get info if they ask. The roommate is a whole other issue and I’d be distancing myself from him as much as possible. Going into law enforcement and living with someone who’s made the same dumb decision 6 times looks terrible.
I don’t know why they’d expect anyone to give you their SSN. I certainly wouldn’t be willing to give my roommate my SSN for any reason. Their name and birth date should be plenty. Personally, I think that’s pretty unreasonable but they’re asking you to provide so you should at least ask them. If they refuse then just tell the agency that they won’t give it to you.
As far that 3rd roommate goes, you need to distance yourself as much as possible from him. Was this guy a friend who you decided to get a place with or was this a situation where you found a random roommate and didn’t know him before living together?
