Are Americans better at work / more productive ?

r/

My boss told me your 12 hour day is not even productive as the 9 hour days by our US counterparts.

Context : I am in India and I work as a software engineer, while he is comparing us to Sales team in the US region.

Is this really true, if so how do you do this?

I think your boss is just trying to shame you into working harder.

Most Americans work some variation of a 9-5. That is 8 hours.

As someone who worked 12 hour shifts, 5 days a week, for multiple years: Your boss is full of it.

That’s the BS they feed you in India. They tell you Americans are lazy so they can justify paying you pennies on the dollar for what they would have to pay us.

I believe you are saying that your boss claims the 12hr you work is less productive than an American 9hr work day? This is most likely a false claim.

Stay positive, and keep practicing English, can tell you’re trying to do your best.

    We work 8 hour days.

The American work ethic is built on hard work, diligence, and self-reliance. We focus intensely, strive for excellence, and aim to be the best at what we do—because that’s the path to success and upward mobility.

Maybe, maybe not. Americans will work hard, but not harder than anyone else. We’re all human.

That being said; there’s some weird psychology behind labor. Workers can be more productive working 4 days a week instead of 5, working 9 hours instead of 12.

And that’s if your boss was telling the truth. It could also just be that the local market is better.
