Are comas restful? If I was knocked in the head and entered a coma for 8 hours before waking, would I have had a good night’s sleep?

There’s a stunning number of serial killers who were hit hard in the head, unconscious for a period of at least a few minutes, and came out of that permanently changed after that. Even if it is restful it’d likely also be permanently life alerting in some way.

It’s about as restful as being put under for surgery. It’s not a true sleep so it’s not refreshing in that regard. Some people are tense, restless sleepers though, and being forced unconscious gives their bodies the “chance” to truly relax for once. Still far from refreshing and still very disorienting

I don’t think so because your body isn’t actually in rem sleep so your not getting the full restful experience

I imagine it’s similar to blacking out from drinking too much alcohol where even if your out cold for 8 hours you still don’t feel well rested when you finally come to

When I was in a coma for 3 weeks, it was medically induced so don’t know if it would be different. I had the most vivid dreams I can still remember now nearly 3 years later.

I have not been in a coma but every account I’ve heard says it’s super draining. Also comas aren’t a neat binary where you’re out then awake. They’re a spectrum- you can be still categorized as in a coma after you’ve opened your eyes and are able to respond to your environment. You kinda slowly drift back into your brain (hopefully) over days to months of improving responses, reflexes, and ability to move and speak. Sounds super tiring and foggy to me
