no that’s ego, and ego is developed.

Depends. Really all just boils down to nature vs nurture. Some people are born with an overinflated sense of self and others are molded into that kind of mentality.

What do you mean by “God complex” exactly? What characteristics would someone have to display for it to fall under that category

  5. Le1jona Avatar

People are not born with it

But media feeds it into your brain that you have to have this god complex to be successful in life

And most people actually think they should act that way because it so easy in TV

How could someone possibly be born with a god complex? What would your argument be?

  7. christmassnowcookie Avatar

I would say they develop it.

Are you speaking like the grandiose inflated sense of self that’s commonly attributed to people with NPD, or just the person who’s just an asshole but thinks their shit don’t stink?

I think it’s all learned behavior and / or maladaptive coping mechanisms.

A newborn baby has no sophisticated communication skills, obviously. When they are cold or hungry or uncomfortable, the only resource they have is to cry until the unpleasantness goes away. Their universe is themselves and they cannot yet imagine a world outside themselves.

It does seem as though some people never totally develop those more sophisticated ideas. They can’t imagine anything more important than themselves. I think we’re all like that a little bit, in varying degrees. However some are much worse than others.

all that god shit is learned, just like language.

Most religious ppl are brainwashed when they were a child. The only reason you see a grow ass adult suddenly turn to god is always under this few situations. They were sentenced to a long ass prison term, mostly life sentences. Or someone in your family’s is dying, or you did some shady ass shit that you feel guilty to the point that you can’t even sleep. Otherwise no one, I mean nobody would suddenly go”hey, I m bore, let’s turn to god and become religious…

Not a god complex if I’m basically a god 😎

I always have and always will be God. It wouldn’t be right exactly to say that I was “born” at all.

Definitely develop. My dad has a God complex, and it 100% spawned from his abusive relationship with his pastor father

  16. The_Cars93 Avatar

They develop it. Some develop it sooner than others. My brother has a god complex and I watched it form from when we were kids up to adulthood. It’s weird thinking about it. It’s like watching a narcissist grow.

Maybe it’s instilled in some people by their parents?

no body is born any way. it’s all developed throughour life. how tf would you even diagnose a 1 year old with a god complex.

Wealthy ones are born with an inherented god complex.

The very nature of a complex to me is something that’s developed over time through various circumstances.

Some people come from families who were raised learning God’s ways. I was raised this way, and I still have some beliefs, but sometimes it’s a wonder if God really exists.

Some people may have inherent genetic traits that make their personality a specific way, but a huge part of personality and how it develops is due to their post-birth experiences, relationships, challenges, traumas, etc. I’d say the biggest factor is how they were raised, either spoiled, or with pretty severe trauma
