Some are yes. However, I think it’s more tired of the franchise than superhero movies. The new Superman trailer had millions of views within the first day it launched. Deadpool v Wolverine made billions. The spiderverse movies are beloved by pretty much all. I think people are excited for new stories and they want to feel the passion behind it, but Marvel ran into the issue where they killed or removed most characters that kind of founded the universe. So the MCU is struggling on that end.
I truly think if they’re had taken a long break after endgame and started up again with fresh stories and characters, they’d be a lot more successful than they are now. So I hesitate to blame marvels decline on superhero fatigue.
In general the box office is struggling at the moment. Not much has performed well this year, which could be several things. Recessions make discretionary income harder to come by. Streaming is still playing a huge part of this struggle. Why pay $40 to see a move at the theater when I can rent it for $20 in a few weeks? People still show up for movies they’re excited about, but a lot of films struggle to gain that hype.
Not at all, I want more escapism, science fiction and fantasy.
It takes me away from the terrible things that are happening in the world. Because in the real world, evil people don’t always lose. They quite often get away with their crimes.
But in science fiction, the bad guys just about always end up losing.
“General audiences are tired of superhero movies” has been a talking point for almost a decade now. Even now, the facts just don’t support it. If we look at just recent Marvel films, only “Ant Man and The Wasp: Quantumania” and “The Marvels” have drastically underperformed compared to similar previous films. “Spider-Man: No Way Home” is the third highest-grossing MCU project of all time, “Deadpool & Wolverine” crossed the $1 billion mark, and everything else has been in line with thebox office performances of most Phase releases like “Spider-Man: Homecoming” or “Thor: Ragnarok”.
Instead of drawing broad conclusions on audience’s tastes, I would look at which of the films were the big failures. “Quantumania” is the third entry in a series that is generally considered to be one of Marvel’s weaker entries, and has a plot that is built off of the “Loki” series. “The Marvels” presumes that you have watched one film that is percived as one of the weakest entries in the entire MCU, one Disney+ series that while positively recieved, isn’t for everyone, and another that is considered mid/bad. The common denominator is that the wider MCU fanbase hasn’t transitioned well to having the streaming shows be more required viewing than they were in the past. Watching a couple of films a year isn’t a big ask, watching a couple of films plus 4-5 shows on a streaming service that lags behind Prime and Netflix in terms of popularity, that’s a bigger one.
I just wish Hollywood would come up with something new. They are literally over a billion books out there. Now not all will make good movies, but please come up with something new, and stop all the all the sequels, reboots, etc. even if it adapted from a book, it’s not the same old thing.
I was never interested in them in the first place. Then again, I never see trailers for fils any more that make want to see them any more, so maybe it goes beyond that. Everything just looks like a CGI shitfest now.
Audiences are tired of bad movies, be they superhero movies or not. And over the last decade people have learned the signs of what currently marks a “bad” movie.
Write a good script, get good actors in it, folks will fill the seats. They are actually starving right now for it.
Depends on the person. Some of my family members, who are more of a general movie going audience, checked out a long time ago, because the novelty has worn off.
I kind of checked out after Logan, mostly because it was starting to be too much work to keep up with everything. I’m not watching a dozen TV shows just to follow along with the movies, especially when there are other genres I’d rather watch at the moment.
The more high profile ones have been stinkers, but I feel that way about most big blockbuster movies or even AAA game titles. The last seen I’ve that really grabbed me was Logan. Deadpool V Wolverine was just a nostalgia trip and fan service the whole time, and I think that’s what it’s been reduced to. The animated D.C. movies have been incredibly enjoyable and most are only running an hour or so. I thought the New HellBoy: The Crooked Man was awesome too. There is also always going to be super hero content outside of the mainline Marvel, and D.C. movies.
Marvel movies nowadays have the artistry crushed out of them in favor of consistency. Directors show up with half the movie already being made for them. Movies all have to hit the same beats.
Basically people don’t like new superhero movies because they aren’t new movies, Marvel just makes the same movie over and over because rich people hate taking risks.
Once end game finished, I lost interest as my favourite OG avengers was gone. I do want to watch is The Punisher special in 2026 and also because it has Jon Bernthal in it.
Marvel has released too much mid series and movies recently and I am burnt out from watching them. I watched Spiderman No way home in 2021 and never watched another Marvel until a month a go I watch Deadpool and Wolverine. The upcoming movies don’t seem very interesting. I’ll probably watch the movie where Robert Downy Jr is playing Dr Doom, but if it wasnt RDJ acting in it I probably couldn’t care.
I do like Invincible as that is written well and keen for each season
Superman 2025 is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. Deadpool and Wolverine was in the top 5 highest grossing movies of 2024. Venom the Last Dance is in the top 10 iirc. In 2023, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Spiderman Across the Spiderverse was #6. I’ve seen loads of excitement for the 2 Avengers movies coming out next year/the year after.
People are not really sick of it as a whole. Some are, some aren’t, but they’re not really a dying genre, they’re just having flops every now and then and, even then, a lot of the ones people consider flops didn’t do as bad as you would think, they just did a bit under expectations compared to others in the genre.
Not really. We’re tired of bad movies. We see through the “world ending thing happens, invincible good guys save the day, slap a fuckton of AI CGI on it and call it a day” or “were out of ideas, just pick a classic movie, race and sex swap everyone, dumb the story down and grab a shovel for the money”.
It’s so obvious and overdone. If you look at some of the highest rated movies on IMDB, they’re the ones with the best original stories. It’s something we just can’t seem to do any more.
Everyone in my age bracket (40-50) says the same thing. Movies just went to total shit after 2000. I can’t remember the last time I was actually excited for a new movie coming out.
Last super hero movie i seen was Infinity War. Superhero movies are played out to me. “Ope, the world is gonna end because villains. Nope, we saved the day, hooray” boring
Comments
Some are, some arent.
idk man

No, it’s lacking lately. We NEED more of it, marvel/DC style.
Not at all, I want more escapism, science fiction and fantasy.

I haven’t seen a Marvel movie since Ironman 2, I was sick of them then

I finally am. I was the most resistant to Superhero fatigue amongst my friends and family, but even I am finally skipping some of the shows/movies.
They’re tired of shit superhero movies pushing agendas instead of stories
Top grossing movies in 2024: Deadpool & Wolverine (#2 1.338B), Venom: The Last Dance (#11 $478m)
2023: Guardian of the Galaxy 3 (#4 $845m), Spiderman 3 (#6 $690m), Antman 2 (#15 $476m), Aquaman 2 (#18, $439m)
2022 had the #4, #6, #7, #8, and #15 movies
2021 had #1, #7, #9, #12, and #13
Audiences clearly aren’t tired of superhero movies. When one comes out, it makes ridiculous money nearly every time.
People are tired of shitty movies, tv shows, and music
I sure am not
If I could stay in that sweet spot af iron man 3 to endgame id never get sick of it
No, they just dont care to watch shit written movies, which make up for most of the new marvel ones.
I don’t speak for everyone but i sure am.

Never understood the appeal. Magic character can do anything and always wins

Holy fuck was I on board with the whole avengers movies, but for fucks sake, these post endgame movies are fucking horrible.
Superhero or not, don’t care. We just want good movies.

I stopped D.C. after they fired Keaton as Batman.
I stopped X-Men when they started giving Wolverine the Boba Fett Treatment.
I stopped Spiderman when they fired McGuire.
They’re all just the same movie, with different colored costumes.
