Are police officers from other areas allowed to work outside of their jurisdiction?

r/

Location: Florida. I was stopped today on my walk home by an officer who told me I was suspected to have committed a crime. He would not tell me what it was, nor give me his badge number but he tried to follow me home. I’m a young girl who lives in Florida and this man had an LAPD badge. I’ve never been in any trouble with the law before, and I have no idea what I could have done wrong. If this was a fake cop, who do I even call about this?

I would assume that this is a fake police officer and report it to local law enforcement

I would report it to a police station that someone could possibly be impersonating a cop and that they were following you after the encounter.

The chances of this being any sort of real cop with authority in Florida is basically nil. Call your county sheriffs office via the nonemergency number and report that you were accosted by someone impersonating a police officer.

I asked a local police officer about this years ago when we actually had fake cops stopping women on the interstate at night and assaulting them. If you’re on foot, call 911 and do not go home. Tell them what is happening. They will be able to tell you if any officer is a legitimate officer of the law. Go to a public location, etc. If he DID follow you home, call the police non-emergency line as soon as possible and let them know what happened and that he followed you home. You could be at risk
