Are there any artists in your country who are known for doing local versions or covers of foreign songs?

In Brazil, it was a custom among some forró bands in the 1990s/2000s to make Portuguese versions of songs in English. This large number of translated versions in forró became a meme, to the point where we say that an artist is not successful if they doesn’t have a forró version of his songs. Among them, the most notable band is Calcinha Preta, whose some of their biggest hits are “translated” versions.

Are there any artist(s) who are “specialists” in local or Spanish versions of foreign songs in your country?

Not only English, they made plenty of Brazilian versions of songs in Spanish and Italian as well. I’m pretty sure Eros Ramazzotti has a forró version of every single one of his songs lying somewhere

Lol… More than 90’s and 2000’s it was a pretty common phenomenon in Brazil… Lot’s and lot’s of songs of Jovem Guarda (in the 70’s) are basically rip-offs or translations of songs from bands like Beatles, Marmelades, Dave Clark Five, etc…

Latino (yep, that’s his stage name) butchered dozens of songs in the early 2000s

There’s a ton of cool salsa and merengue songs that are actually versions of Italian or French songs. La Quiero a Morir de Sergio Vargas is a version de Je l’aime à mourir of Frncis Cabrel
