They’re real, but only for a small portion of Americans. I’ve been to a couple of those type of parties, but the only people I knew who did it regularly in high school were well off rich kids with parents who partied just as much as they did. Lesser off kids still party, just not like how portrayed in most movies.
I went to several parties like that in high school during the 1990s. How accurately they would reflect today’s high school environment I couldn’t possibly say.

In my experience not at all. People at my high school would have “parties” but it was just them inviting a couple of their friends over. There was no such thing as a big party that the whole school was invited to, we didn’t get along well enough for that to work
I can only go by how it was when I was a teenager in the 1960’s — TV and movies were ludicrously inaccurate. Music, behavior, you name it. A real laugher.
That’s a pretty low bar to clear. There are many American teen parties with plastic cups and people of both genders. Maybe a few less with beer, but high school and underage college kids have usually been able to find ways to get beer if they wanted.
They were real when I was in highschool in the early 2010s, the movies definitely exaggerated the size but the basic premise was correct. I think the biggest one I went to was probably 75 people or so.

I never knew about them or heard about them
Real, that’s how most of my high school years looked like.

Oh yeah. They were for me and everyone I know at least when I was in HS
