Artists censoring profanity on their songs by removing the vocal where they swear entirely and then calling that a “Radio Edit” is just lazy.

r/

Who has time to listen to a song that sounds like a ‘fill-in-the-blank’ worksheet? How are we supposed to connect with a track that’s been chopped up like a kids’ puzzle, forcing us to guess the missing words? Sometimes, those “bad” words actually add depth and meaning. Just muting or cutting them without a proper replacement completely ruins the vibe.

Ever tried listening to YG’s My N-word on the radio? It’s basically: My____ My____ My____—like, what even is that?

These lazy radio edits make songs unbearable. If they have to censor, at least swap in some brainrot friendly words that keep the flow intact. That way, the song still sounds good, kids can sing along, and adults still get the full message. But as it stands? These edits just make music feel empty and frustrating to listen to. Am I the only one who’s tired of this?

The Radio edit of that song is My Hitter

1 – Radio edits suck when the change the word. 2 – There would be a lot of extra costs involved with recording and producing another version of a track that not everyone would be able/willing to pay for

While I agree, sometimes it can backfire. I always remember Korn’s ‘A.D.I.D.A.S’ edit and how terrible it sounded when they replaced ‘F’in’ to ‘Humping.’ I think leaving it/blanking it out would have been better.

Its pretty annoying. But on the bright side the radio version of Not Like Us just gets me to go listen to the real version so there is a plus.

You hate that people call something what it is. Do you also hate when lazy artists remove the vocal track and call it an Instrumental Version?

I remember the radio edits of Eamonn’s Fuck It. Was hilarious. He says fuck so often, editing them out makes him sound like he just has a stutter. It defeats the entire point of the song

The radio edit of Shake That by Eminem and Nate Dogg is comical

Interesting that you choose to hate on artists for this instead of the radios or regulations that make them have to edit their artwork.

I think the main problem is that they’re choosing to censor swear words but having dark and sensitive topics isn’t censored just seems like a weird disconnect for me. I’m all for no censorship because I think it hinders artists in a major way.

It’s more sad that radio edits exist. Radio edits should only be done when a song is too long for radio, and the artist makes a short version so it can be played on radio Why do swearwords need to be blanked out?
Censoring is one of my petpeeves and I am so happy we did not drank that kool-aid in my country. Here you can swear on radio, in songs, on tv. Even show boobs and full frontal nudity on tv. No-one cares because everyone knows there are much worse things in life than a little swearing.
