I never understood women’s obsession with pockets. That’s why we have purses and bags to hold our stuff. Besides my hands, what am I putting in these pockets? What am i storing?I also dont need a designated pocket to put my hands.
I also find that pockets create extra bulk to any outfit, particularly dresses which I find unflattering. Looks even bulkier I store things in pockets! Will most likely fall out anyways. I dont want to store my phone in the back pocket of my pants. Besides, I have more to carry than just my phone. My lipgloss, wallet, powder compact, mints, keys, pepper spray, my lucky charm, hand lotion, and hair tie. I cant fit it all in my pockets that would look ridiculous! Even if im going out somwhere and carrying very little, i dont want to take up my outfit space shoving my phone and wallet in pockets. Just use a purse! You spend good money on that purse, put it to use.
Edit: i wanted to add: The fear of being pickpocketed! Too easy access to be stolen from. It’s called pickPOCKET for a reason.

I hate carrying bags.
Now this is truly a hot take
its so you don’t need to carry a purse everywhere, I like those pockets that don’t show
Pockets are superior to bags, especially for your phone.
You can’t misplace your pockets
I strongly disagree, take my upvote.
I swear to God, I do not understand this silly preoccupation with pockets. Usually it just adds bulk to a garment that is not flattering.
Imagine hating pockets because you’d rather carry around a giant irritating bag
You did it!!!! The first TRUE unpopular opinion!!! I’m so proud of your pockets-hating confidence!
I hate having to carry a handbag, it is so much easier to just have your items in pockets. The only exception I find is skirts and dresses, I agree that it ruins the silhouette a lot of the time.
I’ve lost so many bags, have yet to lose the pockets of the pants that I’m wearing at the time.
Pockets adding bulk and being unflattering are part of the reason women’s clothing does have them. But women do not exist to wear flattering clothes. Function is much more important and you’ve drank the Kool aid.
You put in pockets what you’d put in a purse
Same same same! I have a bag, and I like a fitting form.
It depends.
Pockets are useful and I’m one of those that hates carrying bags everywhere I go.
However, the trend did get silly. I remember one woman having pockets on her wedding dress, which messed up the shape. Also, since when are wedding dresses practical?
i only like hoody pockets n that’s it
Take my upvote. Ive been trying to phase out all pocket-less items out of my wardrobe.
wat is wrong with u its just for convinience
Blasphemy!
Anyway. I am a woman too, and usually i carry more stuff that could be fit in pockets, so most of the time i’m fine without having them. But there are some situations where i wish i had them so i could free my hands (and backpack wasn’t an option), and when i say this i want those pockets not to hurt how i look.
hmm agree, hate the bulk, love my bags. HOWEVER my exception is jeans. I love putting my phone & lipgloss in my jean pockets & being hands free, sans bag. Jeans = free range roaming<3 🐓👖
Truly an unpopular opinion
I can’t relate because I am a man. But if my pants didn’t have pockets my day would be filled with anger and angst. I don’t even like my shirt not having a pocket for my pen and half an adderall
At work do you walk around with your purse everywhere… or do you store things… in your pocket?
If you have “stuff” to put in a purse, you have stuff to put in pockets.
The whole unflattering thing is the reason they never used to have pockets. I personally hate not having pockets. I hate carrying bags because I don’t want to have to have a piece of material harbouring my most valuable things I have with me, dangling from my shoulder, it’s an easy target for thieves and troublemakers. I find it infuriating that babies have pockets in their clothes, yet I have to hunt high and low to have them in mine
🙁
I think for me at least, the obsession with pockets stems from how for the longest times woman’s clothes legit just didn’t have them. Or have fake pockets. Whereas you would never see men’s clothes with a fake pocket.
The reasoning not because they did a study and found women don’t want pockets but because it’s easier and cheaper to cut corners and do a half asses job. Especially with the rise of fast fashion. The problem is how hard it is to get actual pockets, if it were more available there would be less people obsessed with pockets.
Take my upvote. This is the most unpopular opinion I’ve ever read 🤝
Wow, this really is an unpopular opinion.
I don’t want to spend money on a purse, or carry a purse with me, I want my hands free. So upvote, your opinion is truly unpopular.
There’s no reason why I should have to carry a purse just because of my house keys, phone, and wallet.
i like one small pocket for my lip balm cause my lips are constantly chapped but the rest goes in my purse
“Just use a purse”
Ah so you know why people like having pockets on their clothing, they do not want to have to carry a bag!
Pretty sure most women don’t want to carry an annoying purse everywhere lol
i hate purses and bags. i rather put my wallet in my pocket than lug a purse everywhere.
to each their own?
im sure there are pants specifically made to have no pockets for women ; a truly hot take regardless
Yeah I carry a backpack everywhere. I don’t want heavy ass or bulky stuff in my pants. If I don’t want to carry a bag then a light jacket with pockets is perfect.
We don’t appreciate that our clothing is made mainly to display us. Aesthetics over function. Women are culturally treated as ornaments
Bags are inconvenient to carry around and easily lost when I could just shove my keys and money in my pocket.
Emergency back up tampons, the lack of second hand embarrassment of “girl takes her backpack or purse to the bathroom in school”, snacks, cellphones and oddly enough glasses cleaning cloth in a nice little case.
Girl was super excited to show off her sundress. We didn’t get it until she excitedly screamed “IT HAS POCKETS!”.
the whole class lost their shit.
i HATE carrying bags. its so annoying
I agree. It’s just easier to have one bag with all my stuff in it that I can grab without thinking. If I kept my stuff in my pockets I’d have to switch it out every day.
I have a few dresses with pockets, and I rarely actually use them. If I do, I forget about it half the time, and it ends up going through the wash.
You’ve been groomed by the corpos into liking the fact we have to BUY a bag because the pants we already BOUGHT are incapable of holding even a phone.
I used a purse for about 6 months of my life. I’m in my mid 40s now.
I love them. I don’t always want to take my bag.
>what am I putting in these pockets?
My phone mostly. It’s hard to constantly take things in and out of my bag. If I’m at the grocery store and my list is on my phone, I like being able to look at my phone then put it away quickly.
Also, I’m not always out. If I’m just doing things around the house I also want my phone on me. And if I go on a walk, i don’t want to carry a purse, but again need to have my phone on me. Hence, pockets.
i guess some1’s not getting invited to dinner at the kangaroos 😛
Not having shoulder pain as I have gotten older is a plus. Have never carried a purse, ever. Less of a target for purse thieves too. Some of us don’t need to carry our fake face around for touch ups, and simpler works for us. You do you, but maybe stop judging the rest of us. Life is not a beauty pageant.
You’ve been hit by the marketing hard. The whole reason women don’t have pockets is because it makes it easier to sell purses lmao
Take my upvote, crazy.
First, let me rant about purses. Carrying one is quite possibly the most annoying thing in the world. It’s easy to forget, hurts your back/shoulders, swings off your arm anytime you bend forward an inch, etc.
Pockets make simple life easy. If i just wanted to run out and grab something, i can put my phone/keys in my pocket. Why do i have to haul around a whole purse for that? I also love having them on the front so i can put my hand in there and stand and feel relaxed and cool. Working on literally anything around the house? Use those pockets girl! Screws, pliers, wire, scissors, zip ties, you name it, it’s in my pocket. And silhouette? That’s why they took away our pockets. Because god forbid they mess with the curve of our hips and asses.
Purses tie you to the ground when pockets let you fly.
I’m female and I need and like pockets. On jackets, I prefer zippered outside pockets. At work, I don’t go around walking with my bag/purse hanging on my shoulder. I need pockets to hold stuff.
I also would like two inside pockets (don’t need to be zippered) at same height as the two outside zippered pockets bc, when I’m outside, I prefer my phone to be in an inside pocket. Less likelihood of a pickpocket getting access to it. I also would like an inside zippered pocket at chest level.
Someone can steal your whole purse…
Called Purse Snatching. Lmfao
Even if not used to store stuff, your hands gotta go somewhere when they’re cold.
If stuff it just falling out of your pockets those are some bad pockets
A truly unpopular opinion!
They don’t put pockets in women’s clothing because they want you to buy their bags, too. The reason we hate clothing without pockets is because they are purposefully inconveniencing half of the population for a financial gain under the ruse of “fashion”. And it looks like you’ve fallen for it. “Bulk” and “unflattering”? Does carrying essential items make someone unattractive to you? Because that’s a wild standard to be living by, in my opinion
I understand having a fear of being pickpocketed.
Do you not also have a fear of your purse being snatched?
Front pockets on slacks add the appearance of width across the stomach area, due to extra fabric. Why would anyone want to look bigger than they really are?
I’m the same. I like pockets in pants and leggings to hold my phone or keys as that doesn’t look as bad, but fr, in skirts or dresses, the pockets are usually around the hips and the pockets, even empty, add bulk to that area and putting something like a phone or wallet in them look bulky af at that spot.
It’s easier to steal from someone’s bag or purse because it’s not directly attached to their clothes. Also as a guy who has lots of clothes with pockets, if I had a nickel for every time I had to carry a crap load of things because a woman I’m with didn’t have any pockets of her own, I could put a down payment on a house
I mean we figured when a lot of you wear pants with fake pockets that don’t actually open up.
Definitely unpopular but i also agree. But i love carrying a purse or a bag so thats just me 🤷♀️
I don’t like to carry around a bag with me.
“Why have pockets when I have a purse?”
WHY HAVE A PURSE WHEN YOU HAVE POCKETS?
Madness. Sheer madness.
I hate carrying a purse.
I have found that a small crossbody bag holds everything I need and is especially handy when I am shopping, walking, or sightseeing. It stays close to my body and allows me to keep my hands free.
Jeans need pockets. I carry my phone in my back pocket when I’m at work. I actually hate carrying a bag and only ever use a cross body so my hands are always free.
So yes, I’m sure yours is an unpopular opinion.
i genuinely, truly and honestly think you are the only person with this opinion
I need a place to put my keys when I’m at work
A purse can easily be stolen as well, so im not sure what you are saying. Also pockets are sometimes made small so you can buy a bag which means more money for the rich people. If we had pockets like the men do, trust me, you wouldn’t need a damn bag. I sometimes buy men’s jeans because the pockets are so deep and can hold my keys, wallet, phone etc.
When I’m at work, I need two phones and a set of keys on me, minimum. I also usually like having chapstick and maybe a pen. I hate carrying a purse around all day. Pockets are where it’s at.
I have fat thighs so pockets DO NOT help my look. I especially hate the distinct outline of a phone.
Unpopular so I’ll give you an upvote but –
I think a big part of it is that a bag or purse isn’t something you can always carry around. At my job, all the women I work with love having pockets because we are on our feet working all day, moving around. If you want to listen to music, make a phone call, or even just carry your keys, you need pockets, because carrying your purse around while you work would be difficult and awkward. (I not to mention the class issue – lack of pockets / ability to carry around a purse with all your stuff is a class signifier in and of itself – a way to signal you don’t have a job where you’re on your feet all day, you can afford x nice purse, etc.)
Additionally for parents, while you can put your stuff in the baby bag, some people find it more convenient to carry their wallet, phone, and keys in pockets rather than having to carry two bags or dig under the diapers and formula to find their wallet while out with a baby.
And then fancy dress occasions, there’s still items you might want to carry, especially if you don’t have a husband/boyfriend (or if you have a wife/girlfriend also wearing a dress) – car keys, phone, ID for the bar. Sure there’s the bra pocket, but car keys can be sharp and sweat can mess with electronics.
this post was created by Big Purse
I wouldn’t call it an unpopular opinion since that is what most women design and buy.
I would call it ironic since that is what many women complain about, but yet do the exact opposite.
You’re telling me you’re more afraid of someone picking your actual pocket instead of snatching your purse?
Oh no! Big Purse got you!
I hate pockets too. They add bulk and odd bumps where I don’t want to add bulk and odd bumps.
I love pockets. I hate carrying bags around. And when I do require a bag I’m not taking it to the bathroom with me.
Pockets are also useful for collecting shiny rocks I find out hiking
That edit might be the weakest argument I’ve ever seen.
You are the unpopular opinion
This isn’t a very unpopular opinion. If most women actually wanted clothes with pockets then all their clothes would have pockets.
I loathe purses, I prefer backpacks
But not everywhere would I need one, so bigger pant pockets, are nice
The purse/handbag industry wrote and approves of this unpopular opinion.
Lol all I have is a wallet. I walk out like Adam Sandler. Phone, wallet, keys. If I need a bag I have a backpack
I don’t use purses anymore, because it’s just some pointless annoying thing to haul around. I don’t need tons of crap with me on a simple outing. If I’m going anywhere for a length of time, I’d bring a backpack. That said, you want easy access to certain things. Sometimes it’s nice to have a pocket. This is definitely an unpopular opinion lol.
Im with OP. Pockets are unflattering.
By putting everything in my purse, i can keep it all together much more easily. I always know where all the stuff i carry daily is
But my purse is pretty small and easy to use as a crissbody.
“i dont want to carry around a giant bag” as if there aren’t so many different kinds of bags to carry? no amount of pocket will hold my little things i like to have with me when im out and about.
ive seen crossbody sling bags become more popular with men because stuffing things in pockets is actually bothersome. ive lost so many things from putting them in pockets, they just fall out! unless it’s a specific type of pocket— zip pockets in a jacket? fine. button-closure pocket on cargo pants? fine. pocket on a pair of jeans? a hoodie (the big heavy sag is so irritating)? absolutely tf not. ive had my brothers, male friends, boyfriends, etc ask me to stash something in my purse. pockets just arent that great. i’ll put my hands in them but thats it.
especially with tech today. my phone only fits in my back pocket, but it comes out when i have to sit. id rather it in my bag where it’s safe from getting sat on or slipping out.
just let me grab my bag lol
Like 15 posts later on my feed…
I also don’t enjoy carrying a purse. I’d rather just stick my wallet and phone in my pocket and go.
Bags can still be stolen. Best make sure the strap of your expensive purse isn’t an easily cut material, and to keep an eye on it; there are thieves out there who are very good at surreptitiously cutting those things while standing behind you on escalators, for example.
You can also pickpocket things from bag pockets, not just clothes pockets. Just saying.
Anyway, I prefer to mix and match for different outfits. The best of both worlds imo.
Agree!
I’d rather carry a purse than have stupid pockets that are worthless. I’ve lost so many good chapsticks because the pockets in women’s clothing aren’t actually useful — everything just falls right out! They are too small, angled weird, make clothing look frumpy, etc.
I actually fully agree with you, so no upvote for you. I cannot stand pockets on my clothes.
I don’t understand it either, but for a different reason. I’ve never had this pocket problem everyone else seems to have. Maybe I’ve ( f67) just always bought the right clothes with plenty of pockets..I do wonder where yall are buying clothes . Of all the things to complain about womens fashion, this is not one for me.
I never carry a purse.
I hate carrying bags. And backpacks everywhere make me look like a weirdo. Not sure why you wouldn’t like pockets lol
I don’t want to carry a bag around everywhere, and bags can be stolen just like pockets can be picked
Bro, I’m so cool with you hating pockets, but starting this post with “I never understood women’s obsession with pockets,” is giving internalized misogyny and me the ick.
You can voice an unpopular opinion without stating “im totally different and unique and nothing like those pocket beggars.”
This was the perfect post. This opinion triggered so much rage.
“I have completely succumbed to the marketing tactics that tell women that pockets make them look unattractive.”
Okay.
Unpopular indeed.
Wow! Now THAT’S unpopular!
Bags are always worse. They strain ur shoulder, thieves can just grab it, they’re forgettable, etc. Those who think pockets are too bulky are the reason why designers don’t put pockets. So shallow
Pockets are fucking awesome at concerts when you don’t want to wear a clear purse or have a purse that’s the size of your hand.
I want to know the purpose of chest pockets on women’s shirts, like seriously.
As someone who agrees with you, I think it is so funny how the comments are screaming you are a victim to marketing because you have an opinion lol
Honestly, work outfits need pockets. I go to a meeting, I need to take my phone, notebook, coffee, pen. I don’t want to take a bag or juggle it all in my hands. It’s fine when it’s colder months and I’m wearing a suit jacket, but when it gets warmer and I’m in a summer dress or skirt, having pockets there is a blessing.
I need some pockets! I kinda hate carrying a purse if I only need a couple of things.
Sometimes I just want my key, ID, credit card. At work I might just need my office key, employ ID, and usually a tissue (chronic allergies). Eff no to a clunky, jingly-jangly lanyard unless completely unavoidable.
When I do have to carry a bag, especially for a longer outing, I’m gonna prefer a crossbody strap.
I just prefer my hands to be free.
When I am at work, and not needing to carry a bag around, I’d like to have pockets for all kinds of things.
Did you know that through the 17th to 19th centuries, men got real pockets in their clothes while women only got small bags tied around the waist and worn under skirts. The thinking at the time was that women didn’t need to carry things like money or keys because they weren’t really expected to have independence. Pockets symbolized freedom and self-reliance, so keeping them out of women’s clothes was one more way to keep women in their place.
I tell everyone that I meet, when my dress has pockets.
I’ve truly never seen an opinion like this ever
If we had pockets, we wouldn’t need purses. You can lose your purse. You can’t lose your pocket.
I don’t like purses. I like having the option to keep things directly on my person.
It’s called purse SNATCHING for a reason
Agree! What the heck are people storing in these pockets
The obsession is because I don’t want to spend more money for a purse. I just want to carry what I need with me.
Take my upvote. I want to YEET you right out the window, ma’am 😂
It’s just a little unfair I can fit my newborn nephew into my men’s jeans but can’t fit my lipgloss in my woman’s jeans.
Yes bags exist for a reason but sometimes i don’t want to lug one around
Nvm my purse can clash w/ my outfit… am i supposed to have several purses for w/e look i choose that day/occasion? & then I’m supposed to migrate my stuff between them? That sounds exhausting! If much rather deal w/ the “bulky” pockets
Genuinely can’t believe a woman posted this
What if…….hear me out- not everyone wants to have to carry a purse.
I can’t express how much I love pockets! Gives my hands a place to be and emergency holding area if needed. Cat’s meow they are!
thank you for being brave enough to say this lmao. i do understand women who want pockets, but i loathe both the sensation and appearance of having anything in my pockets. not to mention they are completely untrustworthy unless they’re zippered.
also, even as a tiny purse lover, that little thing fits more than i could ever fit into pockets. i love having the option to bring whatever i want with me and then just being able to zip it all up in a neat little bag with no worries.
this is obviously a Big Purse plant post. no one actually dislikes pockets.
I don’t care for pockets unless it’s a coat with zippered pockets or pants/leggings with deep pockets. I don’t like the feel of the bulk that comes with pockets in sweaters, skirts, or dresses and I don’t want to put something in my pocket and have it fall out. Plus, I like being prepared and I can’t fit everything I might want or need in my pockets. I carry everything but the bathroom sink in my bag.
I use a small backpack rather than a handbag. I occasionally use a cane, which is difficult to manage with a handbag. I actually wear it so shoulder pain isn’t really an issue, nor thievery. So…I also don’t care for pockets, but not for aesthetic reasons. They just aren’t sufficient for my needs.
Upvote for truly an unpopular opinion, however I freaking love pockets!! Bags on the other hand get heavy after awhile and I feel as if someone could snatch a bag easier. I love how I can just reach in my pockets for something. With a purse I have to unzip and dig around and look in compartments.
You are definitely unpopular with this approach. Incomprehensible, tbh. Clothes are to be practical and comfortable. Pockets are crucial.
lol way easy to rip a bag off your shoulder than get in your pocket.
I get not having pockets on all items, but I dislike when the pockets are there, but are useless in size. I’ve had clothes where the pockets are only a few centimeters deep, so what’s the point of even having them? The patterning and sewing will need more time and fabric, which will affect the price. So if I’m paying for pockets, I want my phone to fit in them.
I don’t like carrying purses. I have one for when I absolutely need it but I only use it a few times a year since I realized that my wallet has an insert that I can keep the cards I need on a daily basis. I am much more likely to use my backpack for outings that we need to carry food and water on us.
Also where do you put your phone? I don’t even like having pajamas without pockets because then I just have to carry my phone in my hands everywhere I go.
On the pickpocketing note, if I have a purse I am generally not zipping it up because that makes it even more annoying so I don’t think it is much harder to sneakily take things out of. I am also likely to leave it at a table at a restaurant while I go to the bathroom or something leaving it up to my friends to watch it.
Traitor
If pockets after making your clothes unflattering you agree wearing the wrong size.
I do have a bag but I didn’t “pay good money” for it. I prefer to have actual access to what I want like my phone, debit card and keys. My purse is not connected to me and I will not remember it when walking to a meeting, going to the bathroom, or possibly even leaving a building.
Yup, this is a very unpopular opinion.
Holy shit I was just about to post the same opinion! I have clothes that have pockets as deep as the Marianas Trench and I still don’t use them. Purses FTW.
Truly an unpopular opinion because I can’t stand not having pockets lol
People also steal purses. A purse is annoying while on a walk. I’d rather have my phone wallet with me.
Definitely the most unpopular opinion I have ever heard.
This truly deserves upvotes
I actually agree a little on both sides here. I hate putting things in my pocket bc it adds bulk, but also just depends on the outfit and situation. When I don’t have pockets I find myself needing a pocket for some random reason. I don’t wear jeans often, so other pants with pockets get weighed down. Dresses with pockets don’t make sense either. But I’m not a fan of purses either lol
My solution? I’m just a mess haha
I have a few bags, not no pricey purses just little tote purse, crossbody bag, fanny pack, larger totes.
All depends the situation!
So sometimes I have a bag/purse of some sort or a Fanny pack. Other times maybe I just need my phone and wallet so I’ll pocket it, depending on outfit, lol
I never felt like this was an issue for me until this post 😭
>Besides my hands, what am I putting in these pockets? What am i storing?
No, I’m with you on this. Even when there are pockets, they are rarely as deep as I would want them to be to feel as secure as a purse. Historical pockets were more like having a reticule in your skirts, not just somewhere to put your hands. They were positioned and shaped in a way that was practical for carrying things. I could put my phone in the pocket of a dress for a moment to have my hands free but it feels too heavy to carry it around all day and I do think things would fall out if I moved around. That’s also down to the weight of most modern dress fabrics. I’m putting pockets in my aprons and other utility garments. Pockets don’t make sense to me in a dress unless they’re deep pockets in a heavyweight fabric or there’s a zipper or button closure.
I hate having to carry an extra bag and keep track of the damn thing. My current bag is a set of belt-pouches I buckle around my hips, and even that can be a pain in the ass.
All I need to carry is my phone, my wallet, and my keys. I don’t need a handbag for that. I don’t want a handbag for that. I want pockets.
I simply hate the feeling of stuff in my pockets esp something like a phone. But IDC if my clothes have decent pockets, I just won’t use them. There should be pockets because most women want them!
Wow, an actual hot take. There’s also women’s clothes where the pockets that are present might as well not be there because they’re tiny. Good size pockets like most men’s clothes should exist in women’s clothes too.
Lol. You’re denying women an extra chance to whine. How can this possibly be popular.
Holy crap, an actual unpopular opinion.
I honestly love pockets and stopped carrying purses because i’m butch and purses are expensive. What’s one way to for people to get expensive bags for stuff you can put in your pocket? make the pockets super small or unusable… or add fake pockets.
Take my upvote for an actual original and unpopular opinion.
I’ll be honest, as an awkward girly I really just want somewhere to put my hands. I would never put actual things in my pockets, what if they fall out??
