She’s young, attractive, smart, articulate, passionate, progressive and doesn’t back down.
Progressives want real change. Corporate donors do not. Therefore republican and democratic media attack her to undermine her. Which in turn leads to people following behind blindly.
The right hates whoever their leaders tell them to hate.
The Republicans hate her because in most cases she is louder and more in your face than they are. And that’s difficult to do.
I am not american, but as an Israeli, I do not like her because of her Anti-Israeli views. Her current view is that Hamas should remain in Gaza, and this is unaccepteble in my opinion.
She’s very young and very pretty and very outspoken but has comparatively little experience.
Some people are suspicious that she rose too high too quickly and think she did it only on her looks – typical sexism. Some people resent that she doesn’t “know her place” and stay quiet and follow her elders – I guess that’s ageism. Add racism into the mix and you’ve got a lot of varied reasons that people don’t like her.
In sum, she is not a white man.
She’s smarter than they are and it scares them.
She’s not even that far left compared to some of our european leftists 😅
She’s a politician. Not everyone is going to agree with her positions especially when they’re so contentious.

Because the ultra wealthy hate her and they can afford bot farms to tell the people that believe WWE is real what to think.
The right hates how radical she is meanwhile the far right leadership loves her because she causes Republicans to vote en masse. Many democrats hate her for this reason along with the fact that she is a very impractical politician.
She’s been heavily vilified by right-wing media. The Fox News watchers are constantly told how stupid she is. The Green New Deal was morphed from a sensible ten page document to a scary boogeyman where AOC wanted to take your freedom away.
Even people who don’t normally follow politics “know” AOC is dumb. We’ve been bombarded by memes of her being stupid tagged with things she never said or were taken completely out of context.
She is way too far left
She’s a woman, she’s intelligent, she’s articulate, she’s young, she’s attractive, and she’s from a minority background.
She’s also very outspoken and doesn’t tow the traditional party line.
That makes her a threat to the traditionalists on both sides of the lobby. As such, a lot of negative press and social media attention.
I hate how the pick yourself up by your bootstraps people like to bring up that she was a bartender (in a demeaning manner) and that makes her wholly unqualified to hold her office all the while she’s a college grad that’s definitely more qualified than some of the people they have on their side of the aisle.
She has vagina. America fears vagina. They’d rather not vote and let a felon lead them to ruin than vote for vagina.

If you want to understand a particular American decision or habit, a safe bet is to look at a fear angle first. Not exclusively, but it’s just worthwhile to explore that one first. Also though, remember that Americans are also famed for very undying optimism…. you could be on a raft without supplies in the middle of the ocean and the American survivor is sure that you are near a shipping lane.
Both people negative and neutral towards AOC’s aims will be, justifiably or not, afraid of what she might change. It is likely that many people positive towards her aims, are afraid that the methods she uses might fail or risk AOC’s standing. Few people will be interested in hearing about her succes, as those behind her have already convinced themselves of the succes. So in summary:
AOC and her backers possess the undying optimism, being Americans themselves, and can succeed regardless of skepticism. In Europe we do things very differently; it is our experience that precisely the skepticism and optimism in the public debate ends up determining public policy – shifting positions long before an election where Geert Wilders could win.
In Europe things more often change in anticipation of an election next decade, with the election itself often mattering less. In America things rarely change, but if they do, it is only AFTER an election.
She’s smart, attractive, always has her homework done, and takes no sh1t.
Women are supposed to be attractive and quietly defer to the men.
She acts like she’s the Queen of the Democratic party when she’s accomplished nothing.
Most of America has no idea who she is
A lot of Americans don’t think the Nazis were wrong. That’s why. There are Americans literally marching around with swastika arm bands, while that is completely illegal in Germany.
The right hates her because they are threatened by her. Shes smart, charismatic, attractive and she doesnt hate the same people they do.
I don’t hate AOC, but I see somebody of average intelligence who is a fair weather grifter in terms of her opinions and beliefs. Without a solid ideological framework, I would not want her to be president, if that’s the underlying question as rumours she’ll run. She is actually one of the better members of congress and some of her committee work has been decent, she’s fine just a bit narcissistic and attention seeking too.
I’d take her over yet another life long politician in their 80’s making millions off insider trading.
Did she do something? Uh yeah! First of all she was born a woman. Second of all, she isn’t white, and third, and this is the big one, she worked as a bartender before getting into politics which is why she champions so much for the working class.
The working class, the same group of people that the right claims to be made of and claims to “support labor/backbone of America” but in reality have been pushed down. They don’t like her because she isn’t a part of their little club, and she has always been a progressive for change, which obviously those in power don’t want.
Because she went from being a bartender to be worth over $8 million in just a few short years. All on $120,000 a year salary
AOC tells Americans that we should help those less fortunate in life. Americans, whose lives are already better than 90% of the world feel they are less fortunate already and don’t want to give to others. Hence they hate that she wants to help those that aren’t them by taking what they think should not be taken from themselves
She’s a future threat. Right wing media is doing the same thing to her that they did when it was clear Hilary was going to come after Obama: spend every moment they can trashing her and painting her as the devil so when they run their horrendous candidate, any Republican who’s thinking about switching has to overcome years of propaganda to do so.
Because the propaganda has worked and many people think she’s an idiot because anytime people hear about her, she’s screaming about something and sounds crazy because of the way things get clipped. Couple that with the fact she’s a young woman and was a bartender which leads more into the argument that she’s stupid because unfortunately a lot of people see bartenders and dumb.
Small ignorant minds are why. They’ve been programmed by Fox News to hate anything g progressive.

She’s one of the more vocal members of the Progressive movement in America which is considered to be an extreme position when it is largely how much of Europe functions. So I understand the confusion.
I don’t hate anyone. She’s currently out on an Eat The Rich tour with Bernie Sanders. If she’s anything like Bernie, she’ll be wealthy soon and then tell you it was because of the big book deal she signed. Books that could be self published and given away for free.
Bernie’s home page has one overriding theme and it’s the same as all politicians- DONATE.
AOC is an example of how corrupt our government is. She was a bartender that is now worth millions by spending a couple terms in the House.

Sanders isn’t very popular either, outside of Reddit. The average American is not a fan of socialism, and AOC is vocally socialist.
People on the left want her to throw away any shred of power she might have in a grand quixotic gesture, when what we actually need is for her to be the bare minimum, the standard politician.

Propaganda
From what I can tell it’s not actually as many as it seems. Unfortunately the loudest voice in the room, though also the dumbest, is the one everyone hears first. Although I believe both her and sanders are pushing universal healthcare, the possibility of a universal minimum wage, and better regulations on firearms, and lowering housing cost among other things. The issue that some people seem to have is thinking things like universal healthcare is the same as socialism but we already pay for it but not everyone receives it. Medicare/Medicaid comes out of our paychecks. Then when you mention raising minimum wage to something livable, they say they don’t need to ive handouts, but also forget that minimum wage was originally meant to be the minimum amount you can live off of working full-time. Mentioning anything about gun control though sends the same people who call liberals and democrats and anyone not like them a snowflake to instantly throw a temper tantrum.
I hate all politicians. I don’t discriminate. They’re all the same. Every. Single. One.

She represents everything trumpers hate. A fairer, more compassionate society rather than the winner-takes-all self-interest individualism that underpins modern American capitalism (even if most of the willing participants are losing – it’s the potential for winning, the potential for becoming billionaires that hooks them)
I just don’t agree with her ideas and don’t like her constant emotional rhetoric. I think she manipulates with emotion.
The truth is that the powerful villianize any person or group that is threat to their power. Amazingly they are able to keep the masses focused on hating these people and not themselves.
