I know this situation will vary across fields, so I am particularly hoping to get some insights from fellow astrophysics PhDs (though others are more than welcome to chime in!).
I’m in the last year of my postdoc and dealing with a major burnout. I also do not want to relocate right now. I have been considering taking some time off — maybe even switching to industry to see if I like the pace there better.
I know academia is not the be all or end all, but I am worried about completely burning bridges if I take a break.
So my question to you all is: has anyone (or someone you know) gone to industry and then returned to academia? How was the experience transitioning back? And how did you go about doing that?
This decision is weighing heavily on me, so I will appreciate any insights you can share with me!
