I can only grow a little on my mustache and chin, and I wonder if I’ll ever get beard growth on my cheeks. I recently read about a guy who didn’t fully grow his beard until his late 30s. I’m currently in my 20s.
Most of men in my family have beards. My father told me he barely had anything in his 20s, which is why he always shaved. It wasn’t until his 50s, during the pandemic, that he decided to grow it out and realized he could finally grow a full beard (he didn’t try for years).
Is there hope for me?

Honestly for me it was like 35 years old

My 20s, but it wasn’t until my mid-to-late 20s that my beard and mustache finally connected.
39 here. Still hasn’t

36 and counting, can’t grow on my cheeks. at all. Makes like a U-shape where my goatee dips down to my neckbeard and comes up back by my ear. Can’t really do sideburns either. On the plus side, 0 back hair, and just the right amount of chest hair (according to my wife) – like a diamond shape in the middle. I can grow (and currently have) an epic mustache too.
When it disappears from top, it will appear on the bottom.
It was alarming to other students.
I was often mistaken as school staff.
Mine has been the same since early 20’s.
40 . Still never had a full beard
I pretty much filled in my beard as I was able. Before 22 or 23, I could only grow a chin beard. After that, I had a full goatee and could have grown chops, but it didn’t connect/fill in at the corners of my mouth until I was 30. Coincidentally that was right after the birth of my first child.
Go create life and the beard will come
Grew a full beard @ 16 but it wasn’t anything like it is at 23. Now I got a beard barbers will compliment.
full beard at 13.
Still waiting, lol! Yeah, luckily, and I mean LUCKLIY, my small beard suits me because of my skin color and face shape. However, it’s not full and I don’t like it, so I often shave it out of spite. And maybe… Someday it will be full? Maybe not
like 16. my high school teacher wanted me to shave again before their class at the end of the day
as much as you may want one it’s always underrated to have the ability to easily stay clean shaven. the amount of time I have to spend shaving adds up to quite a lot, even considering the almost a decade I spent without shaving at all.
Still waiting at 51. lol
I started growing a beard in high school. Maybe sixteen?
Never
I’m 57 and mine is still getting thicker. Last time I tried was in 96 and it was okay on my lip and chin but patchy everywhere else. I tried again a couple years ago and I like it. I pretty much have a Keanu reeves level beard. I like what I have but would love a Chris Evan’s beard. Probably not in the cards for me.
All this to say hes. There’s hope. It may take quite a long time but there’s hope.
From the first time I shaved my peach fuzz at 15.
From when my puberty started to ramp up in my early teens, my beard came in with no patches and no weak whiskers.
I was growing beards and goatees in a week.
25
15 or 16 somewhere around there
Around 26
26/27 I finally grew some hair in the last patch
47, doesn’t really fill in.
I’m almost 60 and it never has. Still have smooth areas.
Late 20s early 30s. Tho I couldn’t have one for work until a few years ago.
Never struggled in that department. At 19 I grew a full beard.
Since the 7th grade, though my parents wouldn’t let me keep it – had to keep shaving daily until my first year of university. Been a bearded liberal ever since.
17ish
I was shaving my mustache at 10, full face at 12. Then I stopped around 15 and just began trimming. At this point it now covers almost my full face if I don’t shave. Of course my hair line is receding., but the rest of my body is nothing but hair lol.
Late 20s
I’m 45 and I’m still waiting…
Around 22 or 23. Women always complained about my stubble even when I shaved earlier that day. Other than one summer experiment with a goatee-mo, I didn’t really try grow one until 40s. And people loved it when I did! Got compliments from men and women all the time.
Now I have cancer treatment that has permanently made me lose facial hair (thank god only there).
So I may be relegated to a ‘stache only soon…
I’m 41 and it hasn’t come in fully yet. Maybe someday.
17-18
Early 20s
I was able to grow sideburns, goatee, and mustache by the time I was 17, but I couldn’t grow a full beard until 26.
I’m 57 and it hasn’t come in yet.
I still basically have no body hair
Took me til my mid 20s to be able to grow a full beard
I had a very full neck beard by 15. Gradually filled in a bit on the mustache and cheeks until I had to shave it for a job at 22. From 22-33, I shaved every day, so no clue. When I could finally have a beard again at 33, it grew in in glorious profusion everywhere
32ish. I was made to shave before I had anything but peach fuzz while serving so that might have had some impact.
It wasn’t until my mid 30’s that I had full beard coverage.
still just a small moustache, a chin, and some hair here and there… but I still have hope! (for the beard and for the wisdom teeth)
Yeah, maybe late 30s? I was never terribly interested in growing one, so it didn’t matter much. The times I kind of tried it seemed rather thin and patchy. Even now (43) my beard type is not super bushy, but there is full coverage.
36
What do you mean “fully”? I’ve been able to grow a full beard since I was in HS, but it still gets thicker and covers more of my face every year.
Hopefully any day. 43.
My grandparents from father’s side are from Lebanon, so, at around 4 yo, lol. Jokes apart, I started shaving at around 15. On my 20s, if I went 2 days without shaving, it’d be a problem.
At 33 I embraced beard, now I keep a full beard. But, as I said, my Arabic side doesn’t give me the beautiful viking beard, it gives me the steel sponge. So I have to care and trim constantly. 3 days that I relax, I’m looking like Osama Bin Laden.
I had a nice beard by 16. It still gets thicker every year. Of course, I started balding by 18, and I have hair EVERYWHERE.
Never… 43 and still can’t grow a proper beard
17
I had a goatee all my 20s and the beard came fully at 30.
40m and im still waiting lol.
12
45 and it still hasnt fully come in
I was like you, barely able to grow anything on my face. I grew it anyway and just owned it. Over the years it’s gradually filled in, although I cannot grow a sideburn to save my life. Meanwhile, as a teen, a friend could grow a serious beard at 16 yet remained a clean shaver his whole life.
As a man with a ‘problem beard’, I’ve never understood those men who CAN grow a beard, but don’t. You do you, bro. It’s all cool
15-16….. I grow thick hair everywhere on my body…. Oh … except the top of my head..!!!!
Mine started coming in fully around 26 or so
Could grow one around 20. You either have the genetics or you don’t. If you can’t grow a full beard by 20 when your testosterone is a powerhouse, you’ll never be able to.
Still hasn’t
like 18 or 19. Feel bad for y’all who can’t grow one.
My brother is 48 & he still can’t grow a beard. It takes weeks to get stubble.
25 for me.
I started noticing it being fuller at 25. Mine isn’t one of those thick, dense beards that you can’t see through but I have a decent beard now at 32. In my early 20s, I could only grow a stache and chin hair but I’d say 25/26 is when it fully came in.
25, full beard and mustache but without the fill in next to soul patch
35 ear hair, ass hair, random back hairs
42 hair under lip
Currently 45 and have full head of hair and full beard

You guys are growing beards?
I was the same till around 24-25.
I’m 45 and it didn’t get as full as it is now until I was in my 30s, and it’s still patchy. Not like Joe Dirt style, but on my cheeks it never really filled out.
16 or 17. My sons about 15 for which I blame their Portuguese mother. The youngest had a full beard at 15 and looked about 25 much to his delight.
One thing I didn’t learn until way too late is that the act of shaving actually stimulates the follicles. Trans men after receiving testosterone will start shaving even before their beard comes in to encourage the growth…
Anyway if I were you I would bring this up with your doctor. It’s worth checking if there is a hormonal issue. That being said everyone is different. I remember being convinced I was going to be smooth chested when I turned 19. Then one morning I woke up with a hairy chest. Blew my mind.
Yet to do so. Just fine by me. I hate beards and if I could grow one I would just shave it off anyway. Since I cannot grow one, that simplifies the problem and is one less thing to worry about.
42 and waiting for that day!
Maybe like 17-19. I was shaving a lot back then so it’s tough to say when exactly
It still hasn’t lol
I’m 32, starting to get bald but i can only grow a mustache. I’m getting more and more hair on the back of my neck though.
19
39 and still waiting. Patchy at best on the sides and one sideburn has a gap of an inch before it gets to my head hair
I’m 36, still hasn’t come, i look like Keanu Reeves with a “beard” when i try
Age 20 but mine’s still patchy, I’m 32 🥲
38 currently… I have a decent beard now… still a little spotty but it’s not bad at all. It took me till 34 or so to get to this point. Probably as good as it will ever be. Don’t give up hope
It’s juuusssst about compete, like 90%, at 40.
30 baby face
31 outline forming, still super patchy
32 beard fully connects, have to shave 2-3 days.
I started shaving in 8th grade. Probably could have grown a beard at 14 a really thick beard by 16.
17
I am a hairy mf’er who comes from a long line of hairy mf’ers and I could grow a beard around 21/22 but my beard didn’t start to really grow super thick until I got closer to 30.
Now in my 40’s my beard grows crazy fast and crazy thick it actually kinda sucks.
My advice is don’t worry it’ll grow in time but by the time you get it you may not want it anymore
37, and it still hasn’t
46, still waiting for the moustache and beard to connect.
Probably around 18 or 19.
Ironically mines came in around 24-25 but at the same time I went bald on the top center of my head. So now I can grow a full beard and have it as thick as I want. And the hair on top of my head still doesn’t grow anymore. So I shave my head now and have fully embraced the bald look!!
When you start losing the hair that is on the top of your head.
About 26 or so. We went camping for a cheap vacation and I stopped shaving apart from trims and shaping, I’ve never shaved off except one time. Surprised me as well that it came in because my brother and father never were able to grow a decent beard. I’m close 60 now and it’s all white.
41 and still nothing nice
Around 19 or 20.
15
I’m 46 and it’s still a bit patchy. It doesn’t help that parts of it are going grey too, just making it worse.
Edit: although I could grow a (what’s the name for a goatee with the mustache? That.) since I was 16, it’s just the sides that have been patchy all my life. Ironically those are the parts that are going grey…
Edit 2: honestly if you’re worried, just keep letting it grow, that’s what I did, and it started looking for full the more I grew it. I won’t lie, it’s not gonna look great for a while but it should fill out
I’m 41 and it still looks like I have mange
Late thirties for me – until then it was really patchy and sparse.
I don’t grown a strong thick beard but it’s perfectly decent at short lengths (I only allow it to grow to 1cm but usually shorter than that). I was first able to grow it at 25 and it’s stayed largely the same since
Could grow a full beard at 23 but hair wasn’t as thick as it is now. That took until about 26.
Mid to late 20s. Started sporting a full beard around 30.
I’m 42 and still patches O’Hoolighan.
34 and its sideburns + goatee + Gomez moustache for me (or permanent stubble, which is the look I married).
I had a full proper beard at around 20
20? Maybe earlier but I usually shaved. I’m 25% Sasquatch.
I had a full but patchy beard at 14, thing was 100% by the time I was 18. Let me tell you what though, my back hair has grown into a full vest now at 36, so you know, good comes with bad sometimes my guy
Not yet.
About 20, its mostly genetics I think
~30, still better at 40.
Mid 20s for everything to be full and connected.
15 for my sideburns to look awesome
5th grade for my mustache to be noticeable.
My paternal uncle was almost 40 for his beard to fill in and my maternal uncle was mid 30s
By the time my beard could grow in fully it was already grey.
I think I was around 30 when I got a full beard, likely could have grown one before that but I had a kickass goatee that I grew at 26 or so that I preferred at the time.
Still don’t like a beard but have the goatee and short around the jaw…Like a redneck John Wick thing.
22
Late 20s
About 15, and I was full height at 12, needless to say I looked a lot older than I was for a long time.
You guys are growing beards?
