Asking for a friend. Location: NJ
Going through a divorce, and have a deadline in 2 days to submit all exhibits. This deadline is non negotiable, and had been ordered by judge 2.5 months ago. We had mediation days start of this month, and i didn’t agree with the mediation terms and asked my lawyer to go for trial. Lawyer suddenly for the past 3days forcing me to sign consent order and withdraw divorce which i don’t want to do. Now lawyer saying they are not ready for trial and cannot represent me since they couldn’t acquire responses from subpoenas to submit briefs. Moreover they are saying there is no full report from asset appraiser, but appraiser emailed us saying my ex didn’t let them enter property stating we are going for court ordered reconciliation which is not the case, and i never agreed to any such terms during mediation.
What do i need to do now? How do i get an attorney so fast before the deadline? Will any attorney take up the case?

You likely need to withdraw your case like your attorney advised. You can always refile a divorce and be better prepared for the next filing. You can’t redo your divorce. Once it’s final, it’s final. Going into a trial unprepared is bad idea.

You offer an attorney to pay their full retainer up front, but even then it’s unlikely you’re going to find an attorney on such short notice.
