So basically, I will be 31 soon. I thought when I was 18, I’d be settled by now. But I have no achievements. And I never graduated school or did anything significant in my life. I’m unemployed. Living off my family and I’ve never been able to be completely independent. I want to try for a final time to pursue a bachelor’s degree. Is is too late at 31? I want to be a computer programmer and work remotely. Idk if I should try or if I’m too old.
ps I’m a girl btw.

Nah get after it, life’s short, don’t worry about social norms around that stuff.
not too late ur still young
My mother went back to school when she was 48 and it was one of the greatest choices she made.
You are never too old to go to school or learn new things. BTW, 31 is NOT old. Your older self will thank you for taking this step.
It is never too late to finish your education.
My Mom taught GED classes. She taught a sweet little old lady how to read, and she got her GED at 85 years old.
Before you commit to a bachelor’s degree, take a free short course in computer programming and find out if you actually like it or are any good at it.
Other than that, 31 isn’t too late for anything.
It’s never too late! This is wonderful that you want to challenge yourself in going back to school.
Never too late. Life is a journey, not a race.
Just make sure you get a degree that is worth it and something you have a genuine interest in.
Also note if you want to do something with computer programming ect there are a lot of boot camps you can do first before piling money into expensive tuition. It would help give you a sense if it’s something you’re really interested in.
Not at all! My mom’s in college and she’s in her early 40s. I’m in community college and you see a lot of diversity in age on campus. College is for everyone, and to my experience no one will treat you like you’re too old to be there !
I’m 49 and I wish to God I had continued with my studies when I was around your age. Just do it. See it through. You are still so young and the extra experience you have in life will no doubt help you. Just be aware that as you are no longer a teenager it WILL be harder for you just on a practical level. But I know people who got through all of that, (I wish I had but I was a single mum in a lot of stress) and these people are exceeding in their careers right now and also in the relationships they got into as a mature adult as a result of studying as an adult learner. Do not give up, see it through, get the qualifications. Don’t worry if life hits you and you can’t achieve the level you wanted, just keep going. See it this way, we should all be striving to learn and work on ourselves, no matter what age we are. Only very very boring people assume they have done enough and stop striving and settle!
No not at all, I went back when I was 31 & had a great experience excluding everything being locked down due to covid at the time. You will regret it if you don’t attempt it, so I fully recommend you….give it the old college try.
Yes! Go back to school. I’m a prof and have had many “re-entry” students. They are often the best students in my class bc they work hard and have real life experience and see the value in the degree. If you don’t go to school now, your chance may dry up. You need to major in something you enjoy tho to succeed in school and get a lot out of it.
Don’t worry about being older at all. You’ll fit in and be accepted.
I went back at 29 and lived by “time will pass anyway” might as well do something to make your life better! Where do you wanna be 2 years from now? Still in the same spot or almost done with college? Go for it!
Never too late.
At my bachelors graduation there was a woman in her 90’s getting her associates.
Just go for it! It will get harder to do if you postpone it!
Go back to school. I’ve done it twice. Once to finish my bachelors degree at 29, and then I went back to go to Nursing School when I was 40. I’ve been a nurse for 15 years now and I love it. I was never ready in my 20s to do this job. Definitely go back to school and see what you can do with yourself. You’re so young. I know it doesn’t feel like it, but your focus now will be so much better than when you were 18. And you will enjoy school a lot more because you’ll know more clearly what you want to do. Best wishes!
Go for it! I’m in nursing school rn and half my cohort are parents that are 40 and older. Life is too short to not go for it!
i’m only 22 but i’m a third year computer science major if you wanna ask any questions about it
My brother is 46 and started school a couple of years ago. He just takes a couple of classes each semester and goes at his own pace. He says it’s even less daunting since he’s not 18 and on a “time crunch” lol
I think you should try it! It’s never too late to try again. Don’t give up!
Haha- NEVER TOO OLD. Actually having retired from Higher Ed- the best students are the non traditional, aka older ones! Seriously!!
The young & dumb has gone. This group is serious!! Good for you and never look back- YOU can do great things! Talk positive to yourself. Be your biggest supporter!! ❤️
I went back at age 35, best decision of my life. I graduated, a great job, then went on to get my Masters. I have a much better life than if I hadn’t taken the chance. Best wishes on a happy future!✌🏼🤟🏼
Not too late. I started going back to school last year at 26yo. Its been challenging to work full time and attend school, but there’s harm in trying. The four years will pass regardless, might as well have something at the end of it.
My mom went back to school at like 36 and got her doctorate 10 years later. She makes over double what she did before college and her life has changed so much. She’s 52 this year and living a whole new life. Its never too late.
It’s never too late. DO IT – Make yourself proud.
It’s never too late to chase what you want. Go for it, you’ve got way more strength than you think.
I would suggest to go to a community college. There are grants available. It might be too late for the fall classes, but you will be able to be set for the spring classes. You do not need to be a high school graduate to take community college classes, I do not know about getting the grants. You can work on getting your ged if you need one for the grants. By the spring semester, you may decide what you want to major in. Some community colleges are offering a limited 4 year degree. You can always transfer to a 4 year college. I went to college when I was 32. I got grants at the local community college and got an associates in 2 years as an electronic tech. I was divorced with 2 small children and had to do something that would pay a decent wage to support us. It was rough going for the 2 years, but I made it.
I’m 30, I feel the same. I got pregnant in my first semester of college so just had to make money and now I’m doing better but still struggling. So basically I’m just following along to see what other people suggest.
Brooo, time is gonna pass whether you do it or not. I just went back to nursing school, finished at 36. It was such an awesome experience.
