Barbecued brisket isn’t that great.

r/

soon we’ll be heading into summer, and barbecue fanatics will start going on about brisket. just because something takes hours to make doesn’t mean it’s good. yes you’ve mastered the bark. yes you managed to get it tender. so what. it’s an overly hyped experience and i just don’t care for it.

Do you feel this way about all BBQ or just brisket?

So it really comes down to a few things, smoke is part of it, but in a lot of places smoke is all of it and that brisket is meh.

I’ve had BBQ in every state or state that thinks it has good Bbq.

Texas, Atlanta, St Louise, Tennessee, Both Carolinas….etc.

The only place that I’ve had Brisket that has knocked my socks off was in St Louise. A place called Sugerfire. The meat was good, hearty blend of seasoning and smoke. The sauces are amazing. They have 4-5 different varieties.

And that shit was juicy as fuck. You could squeeze it and watch the juices pour out.

You’ll find a place that has Brisket on that level. Or one day you’ll find yourself in St Louise at Sugerfires…

Agreed, brisket is highly overrated, i’m always disappointed with it.

Yeah barbecued brisket is probably pretty rough, that’s why you have to smoke it

Agreed. I mean it tastes nice. But people overhype it as some godly creation. A mid range steak tastes way better than any brisket honestly

I don’t think I’ve ever had one. I’m not even into steaks that much, if I grill, it’s burgers or beef hotdogs.

You can’t make Burnt Ends, the best cut of smoke meat, without smoking a brisket so that alone is worth it.

Give me a nice braised short rib or a Carolina style pulled pork over brisket any day

Brisket does have a wild range. When it is mediocre, it is underwhelming, especially when you take in account how expensive brisket is and how long it takes to prepare one. But man, when it is good, damn, it is the best of the smoked meats.

I feel ribs have a higher median, but brisket has a higher ceiling.

It can be pretty great. But so can a hamburger. So can a pizza. What was it like… like ten years ago when everyone on the internet was pretending bacon was the greatest thing ever. Yeah, bacon’s good too.

So it can be pretty great, but it’s not uniquely so.

It depends on by who and how it’s made. I’ve had some weak and bomb BBQ brisket.

  19. Mysterious-Brother35 Avatar

Agreed. It’s good , but just “good”

Haha, this is a good one. I agree too. My dad is a keen BBQ guy but honestly whenever he’s spent ages on something like a brisket or pork, I tend to find it a bit meh. Don’t get me wrong, it’s alright. But I’d rather have some ribs, chicken wings and even just a really good burger. To hell with the pulled pork.
