I love a good sports bar and I am a baseball, football, and golf fan, so I love going to those places for a playoff game, but 90% of the time the endless Sportscenter re-airing brainrot on repeat are soul crushing. It’s movement for your eyeballs. Bars that show movies are way more fun. The crowd is more interesting and diverse, and almost always less drunk and more engaging.

Bars are for socializing. My question is how can I socialize if talking during a movie is (rightfully) prohibited?

I’ve never heard of one that does that. It cluld be interesting, but would be hard to talk. I can’t really knock it without trying it, but I don’t think I’d bother watching. I think music is fine. TVs with the news or sports are good cuz you can watch on and off. Some bars I’ve been to have short form videos that are 10ish seconds long like skateboard tricks or trick shots.
I watched Napolean Dynamite (not for the first time) at a brewery but we were outside. Everyone was loud and having a good time…
We use to have a pizza place that showed old time black & white movies.
One of my favorite bars is a tiki bar that shows episodes of Baywatch. Another restaurant/bar that I like shows westerns and serves tacos
Television at bars is entirely irrelevant to me. As someone else said, bars are for socializing. I dont think anyone says “hey they have a great movie playing at the bar, let’s go”. I realize that wasn’t your intended point, but i also dont really see people going out to bars and wasting their time paying attention to the television either unless they specifically go out to watch a sports game or something.
The only time I really honestly go out to bars these days is to catch a game with a friend. Otherwise we’re going to an eatery or somewhere else. But yeah, definitely not going to a bar to watch television.
Bars are a terrible venue for trying view any type of media. It’s too loud to actually hear anything and there’s way too many things distracting you from what you’re watching. At least with sports hearing the audio isn’t that important and you can afford to miss 90% of it and still not be confused watching the ending. I’ll go to a sports bar with friends to watch a game I don’t care that much about but if it’s an important one I’m definitely staying home. I’ve never heard of a bar that shows movies but that sounds like a nightmare of a viewing experience.
There’s a bar in my hometown that would let us watch King of the Hill on the big screen instead of the hockey game. Makes me miss living downtown

I kinda hate sports bars and bars that always have a game in. They are always the most boring ass bars to be at or sit in. They also tend to be way too brightly lit and ugly.
I usually rather a bat had no TV or whatever but one of my favorite bars has a movie night they play movies on a projector against the outside back wall in the outdoor seating area and it’s pretty awesome. It’s way more fun and social to be drinking and talking shit or hollering out movie lines with people than just watching sports ball and talking about sports ball and stuff about sports ball.
The bar I go to shows avant-garde movies and old softcore porn from the 70’s
Bars that show something blaring on tv all day are for dumb people who can’t carry an interesting conversation
Not much socializing happening if everyone is just watching a movie. Sell socializing= less sales.

Absolutely agree! I love sports and sports bars, but if you’re not a sports bar you can show other things! Old westerns always hit! A bar once showed Dumb and Dumber and that was awesome!
My local bar plays both.
I was at a brewery that did this and honestly I kind of liked it, but it was more distracting to the convo I was having with a good friend.
