Been studying languages for almost 4 years as a hobby. If you’re struggling to learn one, AMA and I will give you my advice

r/

I currently speak English (N), Spanish (B2), and Portuguese (B1 or A2 depending on the skill). I’ve also studied Italian and Dutch, but I speak both of them very poorly (around A1 to A2). I have never left the United States and I live in the Midwest so I’ve done 99.9% of this online.

If you’re having any troubles learning a language, feel free to ask me any questions about language learning (and specifics to your situation if relevant) and I will give you my advice. A warning is that it’s possible that it won’t help you much because this is what I’ve found works for me and it probably doesn’t work for everyone.

English, French, Spanish, Dutch and Swedish here, all to varying levels.

How do you decide which language to learn next?

Several years ago I tried using Duolingo to learn Spanish, but I found it to be too slow and basic. Is there a better app for learning Spanish?
