This is so specific it’s incredible. I think that device is just meant to get people familiar with the cadence of the call and give them something to remember. From my experience, most people who know it also think it’s a little silly (I know I do).

They say chicka Dee Dee Dee
Having just watched a video of the birdsong, it doesn’t literally sound like the word “cheeseburger”, but it has the same syllables and cadence (if that’s the right word).

They prefer to be called african american capped cickadees
So this bird actually has regional dialects! In Colorado they say “Chick-a-Dee-Dee-Dee”. In Connecticut they say “Dee-deee, Dee-deee” I didn’t know some people think they sound like they’re saying “cheeseburger”, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s one of their regional dialects. They might just say something else in your region!

I’ve never heard someone say they cheeseburger in my life
In every bird field guide I’ve read it lists their song as a 2 part whistled “fee bee” (not to be confused with the Eastern Phoebe’s “Phoebe” song) and that’s what I hear, not. “cheeseburger” .
I didnt want to think so either. But now as i sit in my living room, listening to the birds, all i can hear is “cheeseburger”.
