Blue collar men, how are you keeping cool in the heat?

r/

My fiancé is a furniture mover, and he is also on Prozac(dehydrates him faster). He’s working in the Georgia heat, and in the shopping crates, it can be up to 130°+. I really want to find ways to help him keep hydrated(he allegedly drinks water) and cool. I’m buying him two of those waist fans so he can have those. Just wondering if there’s any other good tips y’all can offer me.

    Body armor no sugar drinks.

Get him some electrolyte flavor packs for his water. Or some Gatorade or another electrolyte drink. Try to convince him to stay away from caffeine, it is a diuretic which makes one pee more which makes one dehydrate quicker.

I find that putting nice electrolytes in my drink helps with the lost sodium through sweat and encourages me to drink more water because it’s tastier

Other than that, some breathable work clothing that dries quickly will help him lose the heat during the moments he isn’t in direct sunlight

i work as an industrial electrician and im also on sertraline wich makes me sweat more but one trick i always use is making a towel wet with cold water and putting it in my neck. also cucumber, celery and lemons are good for hydration.

Need to drink 2 waters to 1 sports drink. BodyArmor is healthy, but lacks enough salt. So I usually swap in a Gatorade occasionally for the higher salt content. Need to take plenty of breaks in a cooler spot. Don’t sit in AC too long or it’ll make you feel sick going back in the heat. If you feel dizzy or thirsty then you are too late. First stages of dehydration.

Light material full length arm shirts , not cotton. Button up fishing shirts work well. Full brimmed hat.

Liquid IV packets a little pricey but way better than Gatorade

Stay away from the easy to grab Gatorade type of drinks, loaded with sugar. The foil packs you pour in water are great. Fun fact, if you have 12 hour work shifts of drinking the grape ones you can get some shockingly green poop! Always a funny surprise when hydrating.

I’m not. Thank you for asking

Liquid IQ in Body Armor. Can get pricy but you have to do what you can in this heat.

Pedialyte or Gatorade stay far away from caffeine. I freeze 2 64oz orange juice bottles full of water overnight then put them in an insulated bag to have cold water all day. I use Gatorade powder mix because it’s way cheaper than paying the beverage sugar tax in my city.

It’s winter where I live. I’m in 4 layers with a neckie. Coffee is good, the car is better.

Pedialyte, the air hose down the boot/pant leg as AC and praying for death.

I had my AC unit replaced yesterday. About 2 hours into it, I went and took those guys each a popsicle and a tall glass of ice water. $7025 later, and I could cut glass with my nipples it’s so cold in here.

Water “spilled” on the body armor T. And a cool wet fabric around the neck.

I ride my bike in the heat so I can acclimate to the weather. It helps.

Keeping my neck with wet towel, put my hands in ice cold water every hour or so.

Obviously stay hydrated, stay in shade as much as possible

It’s best to wear long sleeve shirts, with an undershirt.

There is no real fix for this. Only heat illness prevention programs. Like at my refinery when it gets to a certain temp, we implement work/rest cycles. Like 45 min work, 15 min rest in cooled area. If it’s severe, 30/30.

Water, Constantly. Pickle shots. Electrolyte popsicles. Nuun tablets. More water.
