Book recommendation! Eve by Cat Bohannon

r/

I picked this book up on a whim in the gift shop at our Natural History Museum, and I’m so glad I did! I’m not even usually a big non-fiction reader, but I’m totally hooked.

The subtitle is “How the female body drove 200 million years of human evolution.”

The author structures each chapter around an “Eve” – the earliest being we know about that had a certain trait: mammary glands, a placenta, use of tools, etc. She examines the way that female-typical bodies and social pressures contributed to the forces that helped us evolve. Absolutely fascinating, and really makes me in awe of my own body and the amazing things it can do. I’m learning so much!

(And, importantly, it also consistently includes and validates trans identities in the conversation.)
