Location: California. Someone has come to my apartment to try and serve me papers. The first time they came I wasn’t home but someone else was and they didn’t bother to open the door. Server left a note and the company listed was ABC Legal. There was a QR code on this document and didn’t scan it cause I thought it was a scam. I’ve also received emails from this company, which I’ve ignored because again, scam?
The second time this person came to my apartment and again, I was not home. This time they called my cell phone with a burner number (changed each time they called) and left a message saying they needed to serve me papers.
I put some thought on why someone would be serving me papers and I realized it may be related to a fender bender I was in a year or two ago. No one was injured and there were no damages. Each party decided to go our separate ways. Other driver did not get my information (ID, insurance, plate, pictures) and no police report was taken (they weren’t called). I only gave the other driver my phone number but they never contacted me.
Can I ignore this legal company who’s trying to serve me? I did some googling and if it is related to the accident, supposedly if I don’t show up to court it could go into a default ruling?
I feel like technically there’s no proof we got into an accident cause we did not exchange information and there was no police report.
Any advice here on what I should do? I don’t have much money to really get a lawyer and go to court.

Ignoring the papers could lead to a default judgment. Consult a legal aid service.
