“Camping” is a perfectly legitimate way to play online multiplayer games.

r/

People complain about campers is if running around like an idiot is the “honorable” way to play. This has only been shamed because people get mad when they get taken down by people with patience. Camping is a completely legitimate way to play any game and if you can’t overcome it, it’s a skill issue.

Nope it’s the boring “I can’t win with skills so I’ll just jump them as soon as they spawn so I don’t actually have to face them” way of playing.

  3. ge23ev Avatar

This is a good unpopular opinion.

  4. apexthestormclaw Avatar

    Upvote for being unpopular.

I absolutely agree. If anything, camping is more realistic. There’s no way you’re running around dolphin diving every 2 seconds in these scenarios.

  5. CinderrUwU Avatar

I play video games to have fun, camping is boring for me to run into because there is 0 gameplay involved.

Do I know you are there? Yes? Then I win.

Do I know you are there? No? Ok I die.

That is the only gameplay and it is just boring.

  6. CoffeeNAnxiety Avatar

    Definitely an unpopular opinion.

But my question is, what is fun about staying in 1 spot and just aiming down the sight? Especially in an Arcade-shooter like COD.

  7. Sur_Biskit Avatar

Camping is for terrible people that have low IQ and zero game sense. It’s not fun in the slightest. Some camping is ok. If you’re using a sniper or something of the sort. But camping behind a door with and smg or melee weapon is for bots. Also depends on the game mode. If it’s something like S&D camping is usually acceptable unless it’s in some corny ass position. But if you’re camping in TDM you need to just uninstall and go back to star dew valley.

  8. puffy_boi12 Avatar

Yeah, unpopular for sure. In real life, it’s also legitimate. But in real life, you just get a bomb dropped on your position after you get a kill or two.

  9. blind-octopus Avatar

    I guess.

If we go with that, then I’d say its up to game designers to make sure the game is still fun even if people are camping. Like their level design should prevent it or something.

Or they could do something stupid, like if you stay in a position too long your character dies for some thematic reason.

  10. X_Ender_X Avatar

Unless the platform in question has a rule that says it’s cheating, it’s not cheating. Skill issue 100%

  11. Sour_Patch_Drips Avatar

I have to agree for situations when you’re playing objectives.

If you are actively defending an objective and kill someone while “camping” and they cry about it I just have to laugh.

  12. Rainbwned Avatar

It depends – if you are on my team and just want to camp, don’t be made when we lose the objective game because you refused to do anything else.

  13. xSquatchy Avatar

Unpopular opinion in the unpopular opinion: If you’re playing a game where camping works, you’re playing a trash game. “cough, cough CoD”

  14. Material-Job-1928 Avatar

I’ll throw in a caveat, holding down an alley, or in some way controlling an approach is not camping, that’s area denial. Squatting in a corner behind a door is the camping as derided. Also, if you are playing a mode where you hold a point (like hardpoint in COD) then camping is invalid, the point of the mode is to hold that spot.

  15. ShamisenCatfish Avatar

I think the “win no matter what” mentality in a video game is so lame, man. How is that fun for you? I get that camping is an effective strategy and you’re gonna get more kills than me, but me running around with just a pistol and knifing people with a 0.8 KTD am having infinitely more fun than the sweat lords with MLG delusions

  16. Seirazula Avatar

It’s legitimate, yeah.. as much as it’s legitimate for everyone to despise and hate on this type of playing because it’s very cancer and lazy 😀

  17. Crabtrad Avatar

Psh unpopular or not, I’m a fan.

  18. oooriole09 Avatar

    Camping with a purpose

If you’re just sitting in the back not helping your team in any way, you deserve the hate you’re getting.

Even in modes like TDM, you’re creating positional and numerical disadvantages for your team if you’re not having an impact in controlling the map in some way.

  19. MoteInTheEye Avatar

Lol sure it’s legitimate but it’s lame as hell.

  20. Gotis1313 Avatar

Every time I’ve tried to camp someone just found me and shot me. Just find them and shoot them. Don’t whine because you don’t have the skill to find and shoot. At least that’s what I was told when I whined about FPS games.

  21. GT_Numble Avatar

My favorite FPS multiplayers game is Battlefield 4. If anyone is camping in a building we blow up the building

  22. Ralupopun-Opinion Avatar

I agree with you, learned from one of the goats back jn the day, WingsOfRedemption. His play style as well as spawn camping in cod helped me maintain a 3.0k/d up till blops 2 when I stopped playing. Strategically camping and cutting off parts of the map for the enemy helps the team win!

  23. Hotdogman_unleashed Avatar

If you play paintball, there is the physical cost of getting lit up and having to walk all the way back to the check in, so a lot of times everyone will camp. It’s really boring.

  24. Super_Skunk1 Avatar

There are times not to camp, and some players don’t get it. For example, you play cs2, your team mates rush b, they all die, you don’t got bomb and just lurk around wasting time thinking you gonna ace like donk

  25. Sensitive-Chard3499 Avatar

Camping is a skill issue. Those with skills don’t need to sit and wait for an enemy to come to them. Don’t try and act like campers are good players, they are lazy noobs.

  26. FlameStaag Avatar

It’s valid only because it’s a skill issue to die to a camper more than once. Maybe twice if you don’t notice they’re camping (though in games like CoD the death cam makes it obvious).

Killing campers is dead easy, especially since they almost always suck at the game

  27. -LaPelle- Avatar

To me a tactic isn’t great if all the players do it and nothing happens

If everyone in your games would camp, then no ones play, I think that’s what makes it “unfair” and make players salty, coupled with the fact that it takes less skill to wait in a corner with a shotgun that someone passes by and one shot him, than to run around, having to think quicker about what’s happening everywhere

Tbf I don’t mind camper that much, because it’s fairly easy to counter once you know someone’s doing it, but it get’s irritating when the ratio of campers you encounter in a game becomes greater than the amount of other players

  28. monotoonz Avatar

I can tell by the comments the gamers who’ve been spawn-killed over and over again 😂

  29. PizzaTime666 Avatar

I like that its an actual unpopular opinion. Camping ruins the fun for other people. You may have fun camping but it ruins it for everyone else, its basically the same as using an unbeatable combo in a fughting game. Everyone should have a chance of winning if you are playing for fun.

  30. Criminal_picklejuice Avatar

Used to play wow.  So max level enemy players would come to leveling zones and kill people leveling.  Then they’d camp at your body and kill you again when you rez.  And if you decided to rez at the graveyard with the penalty cuz you couldn’t rez at your body, the max level player’s rogue buddy would kill you again at the graveyard.

There was no fighting back.  If people started doing this, you’d either have to play a different character or a different game.

Still the most cowardly shit I’ve ever seen in a game.

  31. StimSimPim Avatar

The entirety of the Hell Let Loose player base agrees with you.

  32. gtzgoldcrgo Avatar

If you camp, you will never reach your true potential.

  33. oldfatguyinunderwear Avatar

Sniper only maps were some of my favorites.

Some people like chess, some people like football. Some people like both.

  34. SnooBananas4958 Avatar

I would argue it’s your own skill issue that you have to camp to do well.

  35. CrunchGD Avatar

I remember when someone said i was camping in CounterStrike . . . .like bruh im on CT side playing bomb site?

  36. Early_Reindeer4319 Avatar

You think that the replay loop of spawning in and going to prone in a random corner of the map to wait for someone to come for the entire game and every time you die you go an sit in it again is fun? You’re not contributing to the game. It’s not a good strategy. It’s annoying and cheesy. Especially in games like COD. And it’s even worse in games like battlefield or large scale shooters when there’s someone that just sits in an obscure spot to get a couple of cheesy kills. You’re doing nothing for your team it’s not an “effective strategy” it’s trolling which is what you’re also doing

  37. Outlaw11091 Avatar

    It’s not about honor.

    It’s about playing the game.

If everyone camps, no one wins.

If your tactic requires other players to not employ the same tactic, it’s a garbage tactic.

  38. MyCatIsAnActualNinja Avatar

Something can be both legitimate and annoying. Campers are annoying, but they aren’t breaking any rules.

  39. BlueHawaiiMoon Avatar

It sure is legitimate, noone is arguing that. It’s scummy as hell, that’s why people get hated for it.

  40. CrimsonDemon0 Avatar

That really depends on the game. If it is a tactical game whether it be R6 or CS2(bomb or hostage) camping is fully acceptable but if you are camping in a fast and loose game like a deathmatch mode just to rack up a score and ruin the game for everybody else you deserve to get curb stomped
