I am considering joining PD in my area (East Bay CA) but one of my biggest concerns is my vision. At the moment I am -4.25 in both eyes without any correction which puts me at about 20/400 for my visual acuity. Is it still possible for me to join PD in my area if I just wear glasses/contacts?
Can I be a cop dud to my vision?

Can you reach 20/20 corrective?
Best bet is to reach out to recruiters and ask them the questions. Now a days, a lot of agencies send a lot of money recruiting so they should get back to you pretty quick. Especially in the Bay Area.
When I got hired, they had a minimum corrected AND a minimum uncorrected. Corrected had to be 20/20, but even the uncorrected couldn’t be worse than 20/40, IIRC. The thought was that if your glasses came off or a contact came out, they didn’t want you “blinded.”
I was 20/180, so I couldn’t get on until I had laser surgery (which, BTW, was the best five-grand I ever spent).
