Can I be sued if I publish it without his permission?

r/

I have an education article that my advisor is not a co-author of and did not help me at all during the writing process. I have received publication proposals, but he refuses to let me publish it due to personal disagreements with me. Can I be sued if I publish it without his permission? (I am the sole author of the article)

If you’re the sole author, you can publish it. But do you really want to antagonize your advisor at this moment? Why not wait until you graduate?

No journals I know of submit proposals to unknown graduate student authors to publish except predatory ones.

Based on this potential level of naivety, I am inclined to hear your advisors take on this situation. Sounds like you may be out to lunch

Your advisor has no right to prevent you from publishing your work unless they substantially contributed to it or it is embargoed. Regardless, you definitely should not try to publish in a pay-for-publication journal that has sent you an unsolicited email. Nobody will read your work or take it seriously if you do.

Did this prof fund the research you’re trying to publish?
