Can I get an advance on an inheritance before the probate is complete?

Location: [Los Angeles, California] So I am receiving an inheritance from my grandma. The children and grandchildren are all getting money. The thing is, for whatever reason, her children decided to send out the money to everyone from the SAVINGS ACCOUNT in one installment and then will send out the money from the Investment account (which is currently in probate) around next January (which is a new year of course, but doubt that’s relevant).

The first installment is around $5,000 but apparently for CalFresh (food stamps) and perhaps Medi-Cal as well, if I receive these in two separate months, I will lose benefits. But if I received it all in ONE MONTH, I wouldn’t lose benefits.

The money for the first installment was put into my parent’s account and then transferred to me already. My understanding is that the money for the SECOND installment can also be given to my parent to disperse to me when it comes around January.

So what I’m wondering is…can I have my parent ADVANCE me the money for the 2ND installment THIS MONTH, so that for the purposes of CalFresh and Medi-Cal, it is regarded basically as a one-lump sum payment and not lose benefits?

Also, this might be a problem, but it is unclear what the exact amount of the 2nd installment will be but we have a generally good idea of the amount (also exact timing of it being available is not 100% clear). Perhaps I can receive slightly more than the amount from my parent and whatever is extra can be regarded as a personal loan from my parent that I will pay back next year when we know the exact amount of the 2nd installment? I want to make sure that whatever I do here is perfectly legal and would discuss it with the people at CalFresh as well, but for now, I’m just inquiring about if this is even doable, from the standpoint of if I can receive an advance on an inheritance that is still in probate from my own parent.
