A couple weeks ago I bought this used couch from a local thrift store near me in Michigan. Looked fine, little stained, nothing major. I get it home, unzip one of the seat cushions to refoam it and I swear to god there’s a wad of cash and a sealed plastic bag with what looks like pills or powder inside.
I panicked a bit and took the cash out (it was $650 in 20s, already used most of it on groceries and paying off a credit card lol) and tossed the bag into a drawer. Wasn’t sure if it was actual drugs or just vitamins or something. Still not 100% sure. Didn’t touch it since.
Now my roommate is telling me I could get arrested if that stuff turns out to be illegal and someone figures out it came from the store. The couch had a donation tag on it and I didn’t leave any info when I bought it, paid in cash. So there’s no record really. But now I’m paranoid cause I still have the bag and no clue what’s in it.
Would turning it in to the police now still be ok or would they ask why I waited? I didn’t sell anything or use it, I just didn’t want to be involved. Just wondering how screwed I am if someone reports something tied to the couch. What should I do now to protect myself legally?

Just throw it in a dumpster and say nothing.
drop it off at a police station and tell them you found it outside your front door.
Nothing is going to happen to you. Put some dish soap and soil in the bag of pills and throw them in the trash. Definitely don’t walk in to a police department with a bag of unknown pills talking about finding them with cash.
Dude just throw it away. You go to the cops now you’re more likely to get in legal trouble. I would not even have told my roommate.
put it in the trash and throw it in a dumpster. geez. wish that could happen to me
This falls firmly under the Finders Keepers, Losers Weepers rule. Don’t sweat it but also, toss those drugs before someone finds them and you do get in trouble.
This you??
