I’m female 40, my room mate is female 30. I own the house we live in. We’ve lived together for about 2 years. Mortgage is $1500 a month and I only charger her $500 a m[nth with everything included. We dont have a lease or anything. Just a verbal agreement if terms. I originally let her move in because I wanted to help my friend since she needed a place to stay and I needed help to keep up on bills. Lately we’ve been butting heads. She’s starting to act like she owns my house and can do what she wants when she wants and that I, the home owner, have to ask HER permission to do things in my own home or what I do with MY money. We’ve recently started having arguments over this. If I try to move things or buy things for my house, she chews me out because I should ask her first since she lives there too, she has a say. But when she does the same, if I try to nicely say something, she starts a fight and calls me controling, rude, “youre my friend, not my mom, get off my ass.” etc.
Well, about a week ago we had a fight, I told her “I dont know if I can keep living like this. If youre so miserable, maybe you should move out by August first.”
To which she said “fine, but Im not paying rent for July then.”
I told her “if youre not going to pay me for July, then you can get out now.”
And she said “id like to see you try. i have squatters rights.” And stormed off
The next day she acted like nothing happened. I tried to bring up the talk, trying to get to where I could tell her you cant stay a month free. Pay or leave. But before I could she waved me off, told me it’s not a big deal, she forgives me (excuse me?) And said she had to get ready for the day.
She did pay me rent on the first but is still acting like nothings wrong.
I went to my local court house to ask what i could do if she decides to act on her threat and try to stay free and squat, but they told me to talk to a lawyer.
So now im here. If i choose to kick her out, what can I do? What’s the process? Any help is appreciated!

You need to give her a formal written 28 day notice to vacate and if she does not vacate by the 28th day then you file an eviction with the courts and go through that process.
Courts can’t give you any sort of legal advice. They likely couldn’t even just tell you to evict her accurately without knowing all of the details, which they don’t want or care about. That’s not their job.
She’s a month-to-month tenant with no lease. In writing, give her notice to vacate. The amount of notice varies by location, but is typically 28 days or 30 days (4 weeks or 1 month). If she’s still there after that period of time, you file eviction proceedings.
