It’s definitely possible but it also depends on your current body weight too. It’s easier for someone who’s 200lbs to lose five pounds in a few months when on a diet than someone who’s 120lbs. Check out r/loseit for a better guide if this is something you’re seriously thinking about.
Lose weight in the kitchen, build health in the gym. Diet is the biggest factor when coming to weight loss. You don’t want to overdo it and set yourself up for failure. Calculate your maintenance calories and aim to do about 500 calories less each day. My advice is to track your calories with an app, and track EVERYTHING. You’ll be surprised how fast calories add up when you’re paying attention.
Easily. Weight is lost in the kitchen, after all. Calories in vs calories out. You need about a 3500 calorie deficit (OVER TIME, not in a single day) to lose a pound. That’s ~200 calories a day for 3 months. That’s only a bit over an ounce of potato chips.
I’ve lost ~20kgs over a year with just eating less than my body burns. I’m certain if you count your calories you’ll be able to lose 5 lbs by counting your calories.
(Only counts if you’re above average weight, if you’re already underweight it’s likely not gonna happen)
In general younger you are and fatter you are, easier it is to lower weight. 5 lbs sounds very doable unless you’re just slightly overweight and eat mostly healthy already.
Just get up and move around more. You just have to be in a calorie deficit in order to lose weight. Meaning burning more calories than you eat in a day. Get up, go for a stroll, try to move around more when ads come up on YouTube, maybe have a 10-minute dance party every day. Just something.
A while ago (I got lazy and gained it all back because I stopped being physically active), I lost 50 pounds over the course of 4 months by simply moving. Didn’t change my eating habits at all.
100%, try the 75 hard or even 75 soft, you’ll loose weight fast, even if you do it for 2 weeks you’ll notice change! Pick one diet, sugar, carbs, keto, carnivore, ect. Workout twice a day for just 45 min, no alcohol, only water, read a book, have discipline, you got this.
I went to a nutritionist who set me up with a completely new diet and exercise plan. I ate 0 gluten, dairy, soy, corn, and added or processed sugars for over a year. During that process, I lost about 1 pound per week. So yes, it’ll just take a lot of commitment
Unless you have a medical condition that makes losing weight difficult, literally all you have to do is burn more calories than you take in.
Buddy of mine lost a lot, and I mean a lot of weight just by switching her coffee, sweet tea, and soda to water. Nothing else changed for her. She has an active job so she was already burning calories, but those sweet drinks added more than she burned.
I lost 17 pounds in 2.5 months by eating less and walking more. It’s VERY easy to over eat. I didn’t even change my diet. I just didn’t stuff my face every time.
Typical weight loss on a diet is up to 2 pounds a week. Usually not more then that unless you do a diet that causes a lot of “water loss” like low carb / keto. The big slam on water loss is that you regain it quickly when you go off the diet; but that’s OK if you are adopting the new diet as a long term lifetime change.
I lost 30 pounds over 4 months just be controlling my diet. You should get a calorie journal and record every meal to see how much you need to drop your caloric intake
Cut off eating five hours before bed. This is the shift. It changes your digestive cycle while you sleep and you even wake up feeling amazing. I’m fat and slack and it changed my life. Went from 255 to 190 in four months just doing this shift.
You can add a 10 minute walk after every meal. Not necessary but speeds up the weight loss
Lastly another option is tbsp of apple cider vinegar before every meal. It’s bitter but it’s sooo good for you. Keeps your ph perfect and your good biome in your stomach
The first one is the game changer
You’re probably a lot closer to hot than you think
It depends on your diet and how much you move. I lost my first 20-30 lbs in the first couple of months by cutting out soda and getting in my steps. Granted I drank a case of pop a week so that was a lot of calories to cut out.
Google search TDEE Calculator and input your details
Find the number of calories for sedentary level
Eat below this number. Use a calorie counting app (like MyNetDiary or Loseit) to track your calories. I also recommend using a scale and tracking in grams whenever possible for improved accuracy.
If you simply alter your diet to; limit empty simple carbs, added sugars, and processed foods high in fats while increasing your water, fiber, & protein intake you will be absolutely amazed.
Reduce caloric intake to 1600-1800, eat lots of green veggies like string beans to fill your stomach, walk 15-20 minutes at lunchtime. I dropped 40 in 3-4 months. You’ll feel very hungry the first 3 weeks but it tapers off.
Don’t even watch your diet. I would suggest fasting discipline yourself to do it and then once you are able to master fasting do a bunch of hit cardio. You can Google that to find out what it is and you transform yourself within six months to somebody you never knew existed. After the six months, invest your time in learning about macros once you master counting macros, you will start to chase yourself into a Greek god
I mean, it kind of depends on how thin you already are, but assuming you are at least of average BMI, yes that’s actually the easiest way to lose weight.
Diet and exercise are the two factors in weight loss, and exercise is only like 1/10th as effective as diet.
Figure out how many calories you eat in an average day, reduce that by like 10-25% and you’ll probably get there with time to spare.
Yes! As long as you eat less calories than you burn per day, you’ll lose weight, even if you do t start going to them gym or being more active. Get a calorie calculator online. It’ll calculate your daily intake based on height, weight, activity level. Usually they calculate for you how big of a deficit you need to lose 0.5, 1, and 2 lbs per week. Choose which one you wanna pursue (I suggest 0.5-1 pound per week, as 2 pounds can be a bit difficult, especially if you’re not used to being in a deficit). Next, get a calorie tracking app. Measure your food/read packages; don’t just eyeball it, as most people are pretty bad at it. Don’t be obsessive either, though. If you go over on one day, it’s not going to ruin your progress. But be honest with the app, even if you go over. It’s there to help you. Some tips on staying full so that you don’t feel starved in a deficit:
Focus on getting in a lot of protein to keep you full.
Also focus on increasing fiber intake to help satisfaction. Be careful, as overdoing it on fiber can cause bloat and stomach upset, especially with a sudden increase in fiber intake.
Don’t cut out carbs or “bad” foods entirely. I’m not saying eat 6 slices of pizza, but if you’re craving pizza one day, have a slice with some veggies and a low calorie-protein. If you try to cut stuff out completely, you’ll probably just end up eventually binging, possibly hindering your weight loss or even causing weight gain. Just figure out how to include these things in moderation and how to make them more satisfying when you have them.
All of this helped me lose 10 pounds in a little under 10 weeks. Hopefully this helps you too!
I lost 30 pounds in 2 months by going plant based. From 225 to 195 as a 6’2” man. Yes, I eat less calories now. But I still eat treats and unhealthy things, even candy, soda and chips, almost every day. It’s just that the meals I eat are fully plant based and therefore have less energy density.
If you want to lose 5lbs of fat, yeah, easily. If you just need to be 5lbs lighter, research how fighters cut weight before a weigh in. You can lose that much in a few days. Not safe, not recommend. But I did it when I was overweight to join the army.
I lost 60 pounds in 3 months simply by just watching my calories, drinking lots of water, and walking more every day. In all honestly, 5 pounds can be possible in a week if you take it seriously, a few months is not even an issue. The hard part is sticking to your diet.
I weighed 140lbs and stopped eating sugar added foods and lost 6lbs in 1 month. I have been trying to lose weight for a year and this was what did it.
Go go go!
Yes, but start with something small, like cutting out sugary beverages. Then added sugar. Then add walking for 15 mins, then walking for 30, then 45. Cut portions by 1/4, then if you can by 1/2. Incremental changes will stack and before you know it, 5+ lbs will be gone.
I lost 30 in 4.5 months. Totally doable. Food is the number one culprit. Watch/count your calories and make sure you’re in a deficit and you are good. Working out is a bonus on top of that just to make you strong
Yes. I used the app Fooducate to count my calories and did not exercise at all. I’d lose about 1 pound a week doing about 1600-1800 calories a day. It will recommend your calorie target when you enter your info.
Main thing is be honest. Track your snacks. Track your beverages.
Five pounds is easy, especially if you have not started losing weight yet. Try to aim to lose 1.5-2 pounds a week. Don’t do a crash diet. Use a calorie counter app.
Sure. If you cut your daily calories by 500 or exercise by that much extra every day (or a combination of the two) you’d lose about a pound every week helping you reach your goal in about a month
I lost 6 lbs each months the last three months in a row (19 lbs total) by ‘counting calories’.
I intentionally choose what canned good – vegetables, soups, etc I’m going to eat and make selections based on how many calories are in the can.
I snack on ’empty’ calories – Saltine crackers; a can of chicken & rice soup – which give me ‘calories’ to finish my day with, but isn’t a 1500-calorie lunch or afternoon binge which ‘sits on me’. I’ll eat a can of tuna fish (and put olive oil on it, because that seriously lowers your cholesterol!); again, it’s “eating something”, but the calorie-intake is pretty low – like 100 or so.
That’s it.
I occasionally treat myself – once each week the last two weeks I bought a 12-pack of Butterfingers ($2.87 at Walmart) (I like chocolate) & ate all of them over two days; a week ago I bought a 10 oz pack of M&M’s $6.89??????? WTF??
I probably looked at the calories – I don’t remember – Didn’t care; still ate the whole packages.
Anyway, it’s been pretty effortless. I decided since summer’s coming and I have a couple of cute miniskirts I feel like wearing when I’m riding my Harley… I really wanted the skirts to fit right, so, I’ve decided to lose weight and this is the most effortless (and successful!) way to do it.
I might even decide to ride my bicycle a couple of days each week – I know I should; I’m 72 and “I should get the exercise” – but every time I think about exercising, I lay down until the feeling goes away.
Yes. As long as you maintain a calorie deficit. Use an online calculator with your current weight and height and gender and it will tell you what your maintenance calories are, and different amounts for different weight loss. I find that staying in a calorie deficit, and focusing on high protein and high fiber works very well for me. Everything else falls into place
I went from 315 to 255 in a year. I drank between 2-3 L of water a day, and the big thing was watching my sugar intake. Didn’t change my diet. Didn’t change my exercise regimen (hockey 1 or 2 times a week).
I’ve struggled with my weight for many years. Last summer, simply for the sake of convenience, I began eating a protein bar each morning. It staved off hunger for hours, and I’d eat a healthy dinner. Without giving a thought to my weight, I took off 45 lbs over the following 4 months. Despite going back to a “normal” (non-restrictive) diet, i have maintained my weight which is lower than it had been in 20 years. I don’t know whether it was due to the protein bars, and am not advising anyone to try it. But I feel so much healthier at this weight. I may pick up the practice again to see whether I can lose the final 20 lbs and be at my ideal weight.
Yeah! You can. Prioritize healthy fiber first, then getting enough fruits and veggies, then worry about getting enough protein and fats and carbs, with proportions set in that order. Everything else is pretty much unnecessary anyways.
If you read this and went wtf, consider:
Fiber makes you feel full and fibrous fruits, vegetables, and carbs are loaded with nutrients you also need
You (bet) do not need as much protein as you think you need if you’re from an English speaking country
Getting enough fat is also important, but too much is really detrimental
If you’re worried about (1), chances are you won’t have room for anything else, and the things in the fiber category aren’t usually maximally calorically dense
The last year I’ve been really time poor and not able to cook so was getting a lot of take away. Usually a large meal with a side. I started ordering a meal service that delivers all my meals for the week for the same sort of money I was spending on take away and I still get take away sometimes but just get a small meal. I’ve dropped 10lbs since January.
If you count calories (and depending on your current weight) you can definitely do it. At my peak I was 230 and losing almost 10 lbs a month only from calorie counting.
Depends on if you’re overweight or not. In July 2024 I reduced my food intake by ~30%. Went from 152 lbs to 135 lbs in about 3-4 months. FWIW 5’4″, 46M
I want even trying to lose weight, just adjusting to my slowing metabolism.
Use a smaller plate, make yourself take out one calorie dense ingredient from most meals, and either space out your eating slightly longer, or go the other way and make all your day’s eating take place in an 8-10 hour window (pick which works best for you).
Calories in – calories out. All diets, all nutrition plans work out to this.
Get a fitness tracker to help estimate your activity level. Plan your intake accordingly. To lose weight, just make the intake less. Not half, just less.
Yes you can do it but it won’t be easy! Sugar and caffeine are the enemy! The tell your metabolism and your brain that you have too much energy and can’t burn more but if you cut those out your body will start to crave energy and burn what it has.
Absolutely! I just started my weightloss journey this April and I’ve lost 5 lbs just getting on a calorie deficit with little to no exercise (desk job).
I was on a strict 1800 calorie limit during April. The hardest period was definitely at the beginning when I was used to just eating what I wanted, when I wanted. But now that I’ve developed some discipline and implemented a few diet changes, I am lowering my daily calorie intake to 1600 for this month.
Your diet is pretty much 80% of the work. If you burn 2,200 a day without any exercise for example, you just need to eat less than that to lose weight.
Consider that 30 minutes running on the treadmill will probably burn about 350-400 calories. Compare that to the 2,200 your body burns naturally.
What’s easier? Cutting 400 calories out of your diet (which is equivalent to 3 light beers) or running a 5k every day? Of course you could do both, but one is much easier than the other
Depends on your current weight/how many calories you typically consume each day.
For instance when I was at my heaviest, I was able to lose 5 pounds in a week just by eating more sensibly. But if you’re much closer to your bodies ideal weight already, it’s going to be much harder.
Skip breakfast have earlier lunch. Or skip lunch and have early dinner. Cut out that one smaller meal a day for a bit and you’ll be golden. It takes almost a hour of walking to burn off a snickers bar…it’s much easier to just not eat one.
Yes, I regularly have to eat a calorie surplus to gain like 5lbs in a week because I forget to eat. On the days I don’t eat enough, I’m around two meals for ~1200 calories.
Comments
If you exercise, could do it faster and healthier than watching your diet alone.
If you have 5 pounds to lose.
if you consume fewer calories than your body consumes on a daily basis, you will lose weight.
Easily.
It’s definitely possible but it also depends on your current body weight too. It’s easier for someone who’s 200lbs to lose five pounds in a few months when on a diet than someone who’s 120lbs. Check out r/loseit for a better guide if this is something you’re seriously thinking about.

5×3600 cal = 18,000 calories you have to lose
18000/60 = 300 calories per day you have to be in a deficit
5 pounds in a “few months”? Easily.
Eat less, but don’t completely starve yourself. Lose weight….
Yes
I lost 17 pounds in 2.5 months by eating less and walking more. It’s VERY easy to over eat. I didn’t even change my diet. I just didn’t stuff my face every time.
Lower saturated fat consumption down to below 10g per day along with lower calories consumption. It would probably take 2 months
Stop eatting carbs you going to lose 20 puounds…i lost 59 punds in 3 months.
Yes! Also spend less time sitting and more time moving.
Yes easy.
Losing weight is nearly all about being in a caloric deficit. Eat less than your body requires to maintain weight and you lose weight.
Good luck
It depends on your diet and how much you move. I lost my first 20-30 lbs in the first couple of months by cutting out soda and getting in my steps. Granted I drank a case of pop a week so that was a lot of calories to cut out.
Sure, but you might just lose muscle. That’s a net loss for your fitness. The scale shouldn’t be your only metric of progress.
You could probably lose 5 pounds by tomorrow if you cut your sodium down and drank a fuck ton of water.
This will be water weight, however; not fat loss.
That is literally how to lose weight. I can lose 5 pounds real fast by eating in a calorie deficit.
Lost 10kg in one week… Just need to eat some dubious street food… Do not recommend
Here’s the guide to losing weight:
Cutting out soda will do it by itself.
I lost 30 pounds in 6 months doing hard keto, didn’t eat a single piece of fruit or carbs except nuts, do with that what you will.
My recommendation is to follow it, not watch it
I lost 15lbs by cutting soda pop in 3 months
Yes. I just lost 10lbs in 2 weeks.
Easily, just eat as normal but make the amount of food on your plate like 10%-15% smaller. At the end of three months you should have lost 4-5lbs
I went from 184lbs in January to 172lbs today. All I did was watch my calories intake.
Edit to add: the first few lbs are the easiest. I lost like 5lbs the first week. It’s getting slower and slower.
I’ve lost 2.2kg in the last week. That’s just under 5lbs.
Eat less, exercise more, and it’s actually easy to lose the weight.
But eating less and exercising more might not be easy for everyone.
I joined this page because I thought there would be no stupid questions, but here we are
You’d have to change your diet, just watching it won’t do anything.
Absolutely!

You can do 5 lbs in a month. You just need to maintain a caloric deficit, while still getting all the nutrients that your body needs.

All of this helped me lose 10 pounds in a little under 10 weeks. Hopefully this helps you too!
Yes. Probably won’t even take months.
Weight loss is 90% calorie intake. 10% is being active.

Being conscious of what you consume goes a long way…
Half of each meal should be veg. That’ll burn lbs off.
Absolutely, as they say, weight is mostly taken off in the kitchen rather than the gym.
I can lose 6 pounds in a day if it’s just water weight
I found a great new diet called Novovirus!
I lost 60 pounds in 3 months simply by just watching my calories, drinking lots of water, and walking more every day. In all honestly, 5 pounds can be possible in a week if you take it seriously, a few months is not even an issue. The hard part is sticking to your diet.
Yes!! I’ve eaten in a calorie deficit everyday for about 2 months and I’m down 20+ lbs
Yep, eat less. Less calories in = weight loss
I weighed 140lbs and stopped eating sugar added foods and lost 6lbs in 1 month. I have been trying to lose weight for a year and this was what did it.

I can lose 5 lbs a week from diet alone.
If you eat about 1600 calories a day, you could lose 1lb a week at least. More if you exercise.
Lost 31lbs in 1 month on the “Twinkie Diet” for shits and giggles. 🤷♂️ No meals, only twinkies and beef jerky.
Try and you might.. You get 900-1100 calories a day, and are sick of eating.
TL;DR Weight is lost in the kitchen. Fitness is attained in the gym.
Sure. If you cut your daily calories by 500 or exercise by that much extra every day (or a combination of the two) you’d lose about a pound every week helping you reach your goal in about a month
I lost way more than that..
Just stop drinking soda and you’ll lose 15lbs.
Yes, you can.

I know better than that.
By cutting out carbs and sugar you can cut a good 5 pounds pretty easy . Even limiting can help
Don’t eat after 7 pm
Absolutely yes.
if you eat less yes.
It’s all about calories in vs calories out.
Track your calories.
Do some sort of cardio to assist with calorie deficit throughout the day.
YOU CANT OUTWORK A BAD DIET.
Easily. Get on the opti slim shakes, i lost 15kgs in 6 months and cheated quite a bit

You could lost 5 lbs your next shit 🤷
If you’re healthily watching your intake, it shouldn’t even take a few months. Few weeks or more is enough to lose 5 pounds.
If you’re worried about (1), chances are you won’t have room for anything else, and the things in the fiber category aren’t usually maximally calorically dense
The last year I’ve been really time poor and not able to cook so was getting a lot of take away. Usually a large meal with a side. I started ordering a meal service that delivers all my meals for the week for the same sort of money I was spending on take away and I still get take away sometimes but just get a small meal. I’ve dropped 10lbs since January.
You can lose a lot more if you count calories. Get an app.
Let’s say you cut 500 calories from how many calories your body needs (mind you, usually not 2000) every week you lose a pound.
Every month you lose 4 (ish)
I lost a lot of weight real fast when I got sober. Alcohol has more calories than you’d think.
If you count calories (and depending on your current weight) you can definitely do it. At my peak I was 230 and losing almost 10 lbs a month only from calorie counting.
Next 56 Days . . . Check it out
Yes
You can lose that in 3 days with all water fast. I’ve done it multiple times and it’s hard but rewarding. 8 lbs vanishes like nothing.
You could honestly lose 5 pounds in like a week and a half, I’ve done it before but I don’t recommend it😧
Try a calorie tracker like MyFitnessPal or similar and it will help.
Weight loss is 90% diet and 10%(at most) exercise. So yes, easily. You could probably do it in a month without even really anything drastic.
Yes if you watch it and not eat it
Five pounds can be lost in a weekend.
You can lose a kilo a week with diet, but you can’t afford any cheating.
5 pounds in a few months should be, relativelly, easy.
Count calories, don’t cheat.
OP really tried to fill the subs with questions in s day : p
Calories in – calories out. All diets, all nutrition plans work out to this.
Get a fitness tracker to help estimate your activity level. Plan your intake accordingly. To lose weight, just make the intake less. Not half, just less.
Yes you can do it but it won’t be easy! Sugar and caffeine are the enemy! The tell your metabolism and your brain that you have too much energy and can’t burn more but if you cut those out your body will start to crave energy and burn what it has.
not only you can but it is the only way
Of course you could do both, but one is much easier than the other
If you’re like me, I go anywhere from 200lbs down to 175lbs all within a few weeks of each other. I’m 6’3” though
Weeks.
Can I gain five lbs. just by looking at a double Big Mac with fries and a large Coke?
You can do it in a week.
being skinny feels better than the food tastes. lost 150 pounds in less than 2 years w that mentality
If you drink lots of water, run a couple miles a week and eat mostly meat for a month you will see the changes in the mirror.
