Car dealer wants me to sign new deal 5 days after saying they accidentally gave me too much in discounts.

r/

Location: Oregon
8/24 signed a new-car purchase agreement with dealership for an EV that has $7500 gov discount until 9/30.
They stated multiple times during process how incredible the discounts were they gave me. At one point I asked if they were correct and they said “we double checked”.
Five days later, they called saying they accidentally gave an extra $7500 discount and want me to re-sign with updated numbers. I told them I have no legal obligation to do so. The contract clearly lists the amount as “discounts” with no line item specifically for rebate/gov incentive, etc.

So, they stopped payment of my trade-in vehicle (which now puts me as past due on that loan).
I plan on contacting them today, is this legal for them to do this?
I would NOT have purchased this vehicle at the price they are demanding. I also would not have agreed to the trade-in amount they offered.

Go talk to a lawyer and have them review your contract.

The amount you’re being penalized on your trade monthly likely falls under the minimum for small claims court. You should do it to recover the money you paid on the trade.

Yikes! They can repossess the car. How much would your payments go up? The problem is, the trade in is still yours if they put a stop payment on it. They don’t want to lose the sale. I’m pretty sure you are in the driver’s seat! I was told to sign new contract and was prepared to negotiate a new price. They told me they actually had a better price lol! Push comes to shove, get your trade in back & tell them to go f**k off!

Until this is resolved I’d recommend trying to park in a garage when you can and not right in front of your house

Id take the EV back to the dealership and demand your trade in back. They want to rewrite the deal, you want to cancel it. Period

Look at what paperwork you signed, last time I bought a car they tried to made me sign a POA in case was a mistake/ misspelling in the contract. Told them to pound sand, but took a lot of back and forth with the managers, not to get that signed
