Car Maintenance from Dealership

r/

I bought a Hyundai Tucson 2022 in Ohio in December 2024. My spouse and I planned to drive to Florida from Ohio for our honeymoon. We had taken the car in on Thursday (July 3) because the engine light came on and the dealership told us that it was a coolant issue, they needed to order the part, and scheduled us for service on Monday (July 7). They told us they would have it done by 3:30 pm, but didn’t have it finished by close, so they told us to come back in the morning. They didn’t have it done until today (Tuesday, July 8), so we picked it up from the dealership and started driving on to Florida a little late, but still going to our honeymoon.

The receipt from the dealership said they did the following: brake service, tire rotation, wheel alignment, and the coolant issue that was the original engine light problem.

On our drive to Florida, we were getting off the exit at Knoxville to stop at a restaurant and there was a rattling and then the brakes on the car went out. We thankfully were able to pull into a parking lot and then to a Firestone and get some help.

When the Firestone started looking at the car, they said that the caliper bolts were not screwed in at all and it appeared that there was no rear brake pad put into the car from the dealership. We are incredibly lucky that the exit aligned with the caliper and (no?) brake pad situation happened when it did, or we could have died if we decided to even go one more exit for food.

I would like to know what the dealership is liable for in this situation. They severely messed up our brake system and now we are over $600 out for emergency brake services, hotel arrangements, parts, etc. Any information and help would be great because we are incredibly rattled.

Location: Live in Columbus, Ohio; situation happened in Knoxville, Tennessee.

You mostly have a customer service issue with the Hyundai dealer. You need to talk to the service center manager
