Cashing a check from months ago?

r/

Hi if there’s a better subreddit to ask this in, let me know.

I got money in a class action lawsuit back in February and my mom hid it from me and I didn’t know until now (she was like “I didn’t know what it was!” which I’m calling bullshit, it very clearly said where it was coming from).

Can I still cash it? It’s only like 30 dollars but I need it lol.

6 months unless a bank cashes it by mistake after that time and then it’s in their rules that checks never expire.

There should be a date on the check but deposit it now, it should be ok.

It should be fine, but look at it and see if it specifies. They usually say the expiry date. If it doesn’t, you have 6 months from the date of the check and it’s still good to cash/deposit.

It should say on it if it expires, and when if so.

No worries, it happens to the best of us! As for cashing that check, you might still be in luck. Most checks are valid for a certain period, but since it’s only been a few months, you should definitely give it a shot! Just head to your bank and see what they say

Feb of 2025? Yes, you are fine.

Generally, checks are good for 6 months. After that, they are stale dated
