Hi I’m a recent cdl graduate and on my 3rd day of driving solo I accidentally got off route and ended up passing a point of entry that I didn’t know was there at the time. I received a citation with a mandatory court appearance and it’s a misdemeanor class B. I looked up Utah law and it says there’s a chance I could go to jail for up to 6 months. I’m still freaking out about it. This is my first ticket in a commercial vehicle and 3rd ticket off my life. Idk what to do. I emailed them to schedule an appearance but I can’t afford an attorney and my life would be ruined if I went to jail and my career most likely. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I’m kinda lost for words.
Thank you

The only thing DOT cares for is taking money from us. You’re not gonna go to jail don’t stress about that. But what will hurt you is if they go through with giving you a ticket and not just dropping it to a warning. You will get points on your license. But a warning atleast will save you from paying a fine. When they see your new. You could get a chance. I didn’t know Utah had cameras like that. I thought it was only Oregon that had bypass camera systems. So I learned something new with you just now. But yes always go into the weigh stations or port of entry’s in the northwest. WA OR ID and UT.
