Censoring bad words is dumb

r/

Theoretically, this is done to stop people from getting triggered. But bad words aren’t something that should trigger people! It’s just that parents don’t like bad words, and their kids start doing the same thing when they become parents. And social media blocks bad words entirely, so users are forced to censor them, which in turn makes them see bad words as something bad. It’s a closed loop of stupidity.

And the stuff like “unalive” is even dumber than that – it still carries the same meaning, just in a different combination of symbols. It’s similar to how people started calling water closets toilets, then the word “toilet” became synonimous with “water closet”.

Gen Z I assume? I’ve noticed Gen Z just refuses (or perhaps forgets) to censor bad words in public spaces. It’s very interesting. Had an encounter on a plane recently where a father of a young child screamed at these two who were going on and on about x rated material in extremely loud voices with no filter.

I think it’s the younger gen z because I’m 1996 and it’s definitely not so common in my age group. I wonder if the developmental years of covid have something to do with the public behavior…

” makes them see bad words as something bad” , the evolution of words even if synonymous and bland does not detach from their world life horridness. I agree that people should be more “normalized” to these words and educated on them and historical significance of them, not be afraid to hear them or take words personally if they are taught its scary and bad

Most bad words are insults, so I get why people don‘t want to see them, but the other shouldn‘t be fucking censored.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that studies show smarter people tend to curse more when we are headed straight towards a real world Idiocracy
