TL;DR: Chime denied my fraud dispute for a $98.21 charge I didn’t authorize. Temu confirmed no order was made. I gave Chime a police report, and they claimed they had it before I ever sent it. Now they’ve denied me 3 times and hung up on me twice. I’m filing a CFPB complaint and preparing to take them to court.
I’m at my breaking point with Chime and could use advice, or at least help making noise.
On June 10th, a $98.21 charge hit my Chime account from Temu. The thing is… I’ve never made a single purchase through Temu. I don’t even use their app. So I did everything right:
– Reported it to Chime immediately
– Filed a police report for identity theft
– Contacted Temu and asked them to stop the order
– Even locked my Chime cards
Chime denied the dispute — not once, not twice, but three times.
Each time, they claimed “everything lit up green on their end” and insisted their system proved I made the purchase. I asked for evidence. They had none. I asked if they contacted Temu — at first they said they did, then another rep admitted they didn’t… because “they don’t have to.”
But, oh boy, it gets worse. One rep told me they already had my police report on file. I had NEVER submitted it at that point. Straight up lied to my face. Another time I called in to redispute, they muted me and hung up. Twice. Then yesterday, I called for ask for details on why my dispute was denied a 3rd time, I answered 100 questions I had answered already, and was put on hold and transferred to a supervisor. They chose to not answer, and disconnected my call.
I called back, and refused to answer any questions. I just asked to speak with a supervisor. They answered that time. Shocker, right? When they don’t know what’s going on, they want to “help.”
Temu, on the other hand, has been helpful. I guess I technically have an account — but they confirmed there’s no purchase history tied to my card. Nothing in their system matches the transaction Chime is saying I authorized.
This isn’t just about $98.21 anymore. Chime is required under the EFTA and Regulation E to reimburse unauthorized charges unless they can prove otherwise. Saying “our system lit up green” isn’t proof of me authorizing that transaction.
So now I’m here. I’m pulling my money from Chime. I’ve filed with the CFPB. And I’m looking for a lawyer.
If anyone has advice — especially legal — I’m all ears. I’d also love to hear from others who’ve dealt with shady tactics like this. This isn’t just about me — I’ve seen it happen to friends too. We deserve better.

The advice would be do get new cards and change passwords and so forth. Make sure your end is secure. Generally banks will reimburse charges you didn’t make.
Getting a lawyer over $98 is going to be way more expensive than what you might get back, and you might not get that back.
This is one of those curveballs life throws you and you’ll likely get screwed out of the $98. There’s virtually no avenue here that makes any sense to recover the $98.
But hey, if you’re balling out of contol and want to recover this in principle, bust out your checkbook and give it to a lawyer to go to bat for you.
