Leather is hot and sticky in the summer and cold in the winter. Its glossy look is also unappealing. Cloth seats are less hot/cold in the summer/winter, never sticky, softer on your skin, and the matte finish just looks better.

in terms of comfort, i agree with you, but it’s not just about that; it’s also about longevity, which leather destroys cloth in.
I was once like you. Now I have children who spill stuff on a regular basis. Leather is much easier to clean.
I think this conversation was more one sided back when “cloth” was that awful velvety texture in the ‘90s/‘00s and before.
Now with modern cloths, I totally agree. On top of what you listed, they’re easier to clean and last longer than the older ones.
I also agree, I despise leather seats in cars and furniture
Leather isn’t even real leather now lol it used to actually mean something back then
Cloth looks cheap and stains/fades from the sun. Leather holds up better and lots of new vehicles come with cooled seats now.
Top Gear did a breakdown of this in one episode and Clarkson talked about the history of leather seats came from buggies where the driver sat outside, so their seat was leather for longevity and the interior seats were upholstery but somewhere along the way in the transition to automobiles the unnecessary leather seats moved to the inside and have sucked ever since
Completely agree. Was a key decision I made when getting my current car to go for cloth or 1/2 leather seats.
I’m with ya 👍
Leather used to be the “durable” option for buggies and open-topped cars. After synthetics were invented and manufacturers did away with the rough mohair cloth, fabric interiors were smoother, softer, and considered to be more luxurious.
Good luck cleaning it brother
I wanna know wtf some of you are doing to your cloth seats for them to be so damaged? I have a 19 year old PT Cruiser and the seats are fine.
Y’all gross
I keep cars for a long time and when they’re very old cloth tends to look worn and dirty. Leather if maintained and treated properly lasts longer in like-new conditin.
Do they even have actual leather seats anymore? Mine has leather looking material. I forget what it is called. They look great and really easy to clean compared to the cloth seats on the wife’s car.
Both have their pros and cons. I agree with all your points, but leather is also easier to clean and easier to dry if they get wet
Nope. Leather only. The breath, easier to clean, and you do t stick to them when you’re getting in or out of the car.
I will die on this hill with you.
Why don’t they use that stain resistant breathable stuff that modern outdoor sofas use?
If you’re wearing a skirt, it’s a lot easier to get in a car with leather seats. Otherwise, your skirt just rides up.
Everyone always forgets the humble vinyl seat.
High-end velour and wool, that’s how the Japanese did it. Ahh, the good old times.
Keep telling yourself that, but is not true
You didn’t include enough zeros. Leather seats in cars are unbearable.
bUt LuXuRy (Agree with you)
Toyota agrees with you and went with suit wool seats for their most luxurious model, the Century. They thought the squeaky/farty sounds leather makes when you move around on it were too undignified for the truly prestigious passengers they intended to use the car.
Alcantara and suede for best of both worlds!
I remember thinking leather seats in a car were the peak of luxury. Then I got a car with leather seats and realized that I was wrong! Nothing like burning the skin off the back of your legs in the summer and freezing your ass off in the winter lol. This was back before seat warmers were a more common thing. Back then that shit was real luxury!
That’s not as unpopular as my hierarchy, thick vinyl>>>cloth>leather
Wool is the top tier seat covering, followed by Alcantara/Dinamica/Micro Suede.
leather can be good if it’s top tier leather but cheap leather is trash so is pleather.
If you can get vented heated and AC leather seats, I disagree.
I like my half leather seats. Leather on the bolsters which make them easy to clean, and cloth on the bits of the seat you sit on so you don’t get the issues
*1002x
I kind of agree. I don’t like true leather, but I find the fake leather is kinda nice. As the other commenter said, it is a LOT easier to clean and doesn’t stain though so it does have that going for it lol.
I really like the material Subaru uses called StarTex. It isn’t too plastic, but easier to clean than cloth and super durable with my dogs.
I have the fabric seats and I was getting an oil change when a guy with the same car but leather seats pulled up and asked if I would be willing to swap interiors. Nope lol.
I’ll never understand why anyone wants leather seats, couches, chairs…
Leather is more comfortable to me. Cloth seats tend to be too soft for my tastes.
Slide around on leather too much if I’m not naked, not enough if I’m naked. Cloth is the superior.
couldn’t disagree more
