Co-worker watches TV shows during work and the boss does nothing about it

r/

At my job, I have a 60+ F co-worker who watches TV shows on her phone with no headphones during work.
We work in retail.

She’s been there for over a decade and myself, 40+ F, a few years.

The boss is well aware, as well as the other staff and it has been brought up multiple times but because we’re short-staffed and she’s been there a long time that the boss looks the other way.
Also, she’s had a few personal issues occur and uses that as an excuse to do the least work.
Avoids answering the phone, doesn’t clean up after herself and is rude to non-White customers.
Plus, within 15mins of arriving to work, she’s on the phone making personal phone calls throughout the day and has a side hustle where she’ll have her own customers call or come into store.

She’s close to retirement and has admitted that she’s not motivated to work.

On my part, I come to work to work and can go 8 hours without looking at my phone and always find things to do during slow periods.

However, recently the boss belittled me in front of her and one our reps saying that I don’t sell a certain premium product we stock despite me selling 4 of them to her 2 in a 12 month period.

What would you do in my situation? Would you put up with double standards and the gaslighting?

Omg at my last retail job we had this one guy that would sit in the chair with his earbuds in watching shows all day. Sometimes he would straight up ignore customers because he was preoccupied with his show. He would never offer to take over watching the till or anything. The manager knew about it and did nothing, which was really frustrating for the rest of us that were actually doing our job. I think he still works there too. Wild.

Retail jobs are 80% just showing up without calling out.

Now you know. And knowing is half the battle!
