What would YOU want to show the world? Any item that you personally take pride in that tells the world something about America, it’s people, maybe your state, or maybe just something special to you that you want to share.
You can only bring 1 item
The floor is yours! 😃

A jazz recital.
I would bring my dog because I know how fucked up the US looks internationally so I would want to show that most of us are still normal, loving people who did NOT vote for fascism
Brisket
The National Parks System.
Hawaii
I’d bring the floor because you said it’s mine.
Uhh, weren’t the World fairs the first international show and tells?
The world’s largest roll of toilet paper in Branson, Missouri
BBQ ribs.
A Blues busker or musician, for sure.
“Hello, this is a squirrel. Yes they live pretty much everywhere in the US. You all seem to like them very much, judging by social media reactions. They chitter at you when they’re annoyed. They come in several colors and varying amounts of attitude. They also are very good at burying acorns and forgetting about them, so then more trees grow.”
I would bring the audience to opening day at Fenway Park, and treat them all to Italian Sausage Sandwiches.
(Baseball, the Boston Red Sox.)
Yellowstone National Park
A car key.
Most people outside America don’t realize how fundamental a car is to a comfortable existence in this country unless you live in NYC DC or a very convenient part of Chicago Boston Bay Area.
Owning or not owning a car can literally make the difference between being poor and middle class. The USA we live in today was built for cars. And if you don’t own a car, you’re disadvantaged unless you’re so rich or lucky, you don’t need to drive.
So yeah, a car key most represents the USA as it is today.
Huge slugs from western Oregon! And I will look for an AMC Pacer (70s car that was ugly as hell).
Our moon rock collection.
A gun
Hi, class! Today I’ve brought fascism.
Little Richard’s first album Here’s Little Richard
He was the first artist to sing the way he sang. He invented the sound, and every rock singer since has directly or indirectly copied him.
Yosemite National Park
NFL tailgate. Go Pats!
The space shuttle Discovery. It holds the record for the most missions flown by any orbiter. Was my favorite thing to see in the Air and Space museum.
I’m skipping, we’ve been in the news too much for the bad bad lately, we need a media time out.
My quick takes: Memphis pulled pork, a baseball, a Louis Armstrong record, or a historical chart of the S&P 500.
After careful consideration, I’ll bring the S&P.
A jamband festival. There is no happier place that exists
The Pop-Tarts Bowl. Ritualistic sacrifice and all
Maple syrup from each New England state
Hugelkultur growing food system
Hamburgers/Cheeseburgers.
It’s an American icon beloved around the world
My state flag. Iowa’s flag is the French tricolor (we were once part of a French colony) overlaid with an American eagle. A banner displays the state motto: “Our Liberties We Prize and Our Rights We Will Maintain”.
How would I present it? We value what we have now (Prize), but know that preserving the good for future generations takes active effort (Maintain); and while our central focus is often on the situations of the present day (American eagle), we recognize that the past looms large behind us (French tricolor).
A bit trite, perhaps, but a decent entrypoint into a discussion with participants from other government systems about what it means to be a citizen of a republic.
A Korean taco. Not only are they delicious but they are great illustration of how our country can take the best from the different immigrants groups who have settled here and meld their cultures together into something new that’s greater than the individual parts. I think our country desperately needs to be reminded of that.
My dog. Duh.
The Columbia Basin Irrigation Project.
I have two responses. The positive person in me would bring my neighborhood to showcase how diverse and multicultural we are as a country and how it’s ingrained in our national identity. The cynic in me would bring a white robe to highlight the immense racism that our country has struggled with and continues to struggle with. The lighthearted cynic would bring a fake ID to highlight our insane alcohol laws and the strong resistance against them by young folks.
Garbage plates or the entire Eastman Kodak house (do you think they’d mind? 😂)
freedom
The diversity of our society. I can’t imagine living anywhere else.
Salmon!
Cedar plank Sockeye salmon – Local indigenous communities cooked salmon over western red cedar and was a staple for thousands of years, it’s now extremely popular with everyone.
Lox salmon – Became popular with white communities (like the Norwegians who settled in Ballard!) in the early 20th century where it’s cured in salt brine and served alone or more popularly, on a bagel with cream cheese.
Multiple generations of my family fished (and still do!) for salmon and prepared it both ways! I grew up with salmon being one of the most popular dinners I had as a kid, picking at bones and being mesmerized by the color. Would love to share it with people around the globe!
Deep fried sushi rolls
This is UltraLord!
Certain people in orange jumpsuits. Else we do not deserve the honor.
A week-long trip in the Boundary Waters camping area Wilderness. It changed me man. Both times I’ve been in there were the best trips I’ve ever been on. So peaceful compared to the world outside.
