He’s done enough in his first 10 years in the league (regular season and playoffs), to outweigh Crosby’s impressive longevity.
McDavid has the edge with 5-2 scoring titles, 7-4 top-2 finishes, 8-7 top-3 finishes, more 100-point seasons (8-6), same number of 90-point seasons (9-9), despite playing playing half the seasons (10 compared to 20). He has also never finished outside of the top 3 for points per game, even in his rookie year, and what he did in his 2020/21 (105 points in 56 games) and 2022/23 seasons (153 points in 82 games) is considerably better than anything Crosby has done. Much gets made of Crosby missing time in his prime and a lower scoring era, but even if you adjust for era McDavid comes out considerably ahead.
He has a better playoff resume than Crosby but doesn’t get the credit he deserves for that with oversimplified ring-counting in a sport where it makes no sense to count rings. Considerably more productive, better in the clutch, and better as the playoffs advance to the later rounds.
Crosby often gets hyped for two-way play when he doesn’t have the statistical support to back that narrative up defensively. What McDavid did in the playoffs in his deeper runs as well as this year’s regular season this year is better analytically than anything Crosby has done in his deeper runs or in any of his regular seasons.

I have no idea who either of those people are and I can’t even tell what sport you’re talking about.
McDavid is awesome no doubt. But Crosby missed like a season and a half during his prime with concussions. We will have to wait and see how the rest of Mcdavid’s career goes. But if it weren’t for concussions, Crosby would have a good shot at second all time in points. He should end up in the top five still.
GOAT is also about keeping up the unreal performance across a career and Crosby being a ppg player even in his late 30s is pretty massive.
And ask any player if they think it’s meaningless to count rings lol.
McDavid and Daisaitl together can take over a game like no other combo I’ve ever seen. Much better than Crosby and Malkin in Pittsurgh.
