I’m currently doing a PhD in Australia, but I’ve been thinking seriously about downgrading to an MPhil for personal and professional reasons. I’m more interested in working in industry than in academia long term.
Before making the switch, I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s been in a similar position or has experience with this:
- What are the job prospects like in Australia after an MPhil, especially in industry roles?
- Is an MPhil respected by employers, or does it limit career options compared to a PhD?
- Would having a PhD actually be seen as overqualification for industry jobs?
Any advice or insights would be hugely appreciated.
