Contractor covers my car in paint and the store employee shielded the owner from me!

i am seeking advice and opinions for this situation because it feels like a mess.

earlier today i went to a local thrift store, parked in their parking lot and by the time i came back out i noticed there was white dots all over my windshield. after looking further, i realized my entire car (front to back) was covered in white paint speckles.

i went back inside to ask the employee if someone was painting outside and she confirmed there was a contractor and his employees painting the roof with what i presume is a paint sprayer. he apologized for the issue and i immediately asked for his business insurance to settle this and he said he “didn’t have it on him & didn’t have a digital copy”.

in the same conversation, i asked the employee for the thrift store owner’s name, phone number and insurance and she claimed she “didn’t know the owner or have their name”

long story short.. the contractor sent me money to get the car detailed but the detailers could only get like 80% of it off. at this point the contractor has done his part but i feel like legally i need to pursue the owner of the building and their complete negligence and shadiness because my car is now going to go down in value and i will more than likely need an entire paint job.

my question is.. do i have a shot at getting their insurance to pay for the damages and the value lost by hiring a lawyer?? or is this a lost cause??

The contractor is likely the one responsible, not the business owner.

If the car needs to be repainted, file a claim with your own insurance company and provide them with all the details. They’ll go after the responsible party (sounds like it’s the contractor, not the store) if they can.
