Contractor has felony charges and an active warrant for theft (~$80k+). The local police department doesn’t have the manpower to set up a sting. They’ve said to call 911 the next time I see them to get officers out to arrest them.
We, and the police, have their home address and business address.
It’s been 3+ months with the warrant out and almost a year since the theft. I’d like to try to move this along so we can go to court.
What can I legally do to locate them and have the authorities arrest them?
I don’t want to get hit with charges myself.
I’m already concerned about retaliation from them but have made peace with knowing that’s already a risk. I can’t let this continue.
Or do I continue to look for them while running errands or hope they get caught for speeding or another traffic infraction?
Private investigator?
Can I legally drive by his work and home addresses to see if he’s home without getting into legal trouble?

You could sue them for what they owe you in civil court. The criminal court case won’t be about you exactly, it will be about the state versus the individual. There’s no way to force the police to arrest someone.
