The building next to mine recently had some painting done while I was away. I came back to find overspray all over my car- every body panel, window, trim piece, wheels, etc.
Initially I thought it might be hard minerals from rain, but two powerwashes with foam & soap didn’t make any progress on getting it off. I also tried taking a clay mitt to one of the windows, and even after 30 minutes of that, it was still covered.
Today I went over to the business who had the painting done, and they put me in touch with the contractors. The contractors want to come see the car in person, and have offered to have a company which specializes in overspray come by and get everything taken care of for me.
I visited a few local detailers in the area to get quotes for a full repair, and they’ve ranged anywhere from 2-5K. I’ve never dealt with a company’s liability insurance before, but I’m leaning towards just filing a claim with the contractor’s insurance rather than letting their guy take care of it, just to cover my bases if something goes wrong. I understand I can also file a claim on my own insurance to go after them, but that’d leave me out $1K of my deductible, and my insurance company isn’t the best.
Is there any reason NOT to file a claim through their insurer rather than go with their ‘overspray specialist?’ Seems like their guy is the convenient route for them, but could leave me in a tough spot if that person ends up either not getting it all off, or worse, damaging my car in the process.
