Coworker had sex in our shared hotel room

r/

Alright so I am the boss of him, we’re plumbers. Well I am, he’s a helper. I’ve worked out of town lots with super strict Jman plumbers. Who taught me professionalism.

This is my first time being in this responsibility, Out of the blue I’m chilling and he brings a chick to the hotel spot we’re in that we’re sharing and he goes and has sex in the bathroom, I could hear it all.

He never asked if he could do such a thing, like we’re not friends we’re fricken co workers. It was really uncomfortable. I get it I’m in trades and we’re supposed to have thick skin, which I do but this just rubbed me super wrong, like a total invasion of privacy, violating the spot I’m at. Potentially putting my work van full of tools at at risk (dramatic I know)

AITAH for being mad and potentially getting him fired when I get back to the city? Also it’s only Monday and we’re out here until Friday. It really pissed me off and I think I’m overreacting

What kind of a person is that? Wow.
    You aren’t overreacting. Wow.

NTA. Should’ve been discussed beforehand. I wouldn’t want to hear my coworker getting it on either. I mean, good for you lol, but also ew, could’ve asked.

I’d say roommate rules apply. He should have just ask or let you know. But also…you’re coworkers, not roommates, he should be way more professional.

Let a player smash !!! Leave the room if you awkward brahs…. AH

  5. Snug_The_Cat Avatar

NTA theres no place for that in a shared room with a co-worker. If he wanted to plow, he could have rented a room of his own or at least given you a heads up so you could head out before he got down to business.

  6. QueenScarebear Avatar

I think this is highly inappropriate, and I hope you told him so. His business is his business for sure, but a certain amount of respect needs to be had sharing a room. I see this a lot with FIFO workers (I’m a housekeeper), where they share a room if they’re on different shifts. I’ve never seen this occur.

Sure, it’s reasonable to be annoyed. I hope you realize that you don’t have thick skin at all though. He should have asked if you were cool with it first but either he’s inconsiderate or he thought you two were closer than you are.

How is he as a worker? Cause you’re gonna try to get him fired for something not work related. If he’s good, maybe try talking to him first and say you don’t wanna be near that in the future. Because what are you gonna do if he’s good and they decide not to fire him? I mean this doesn’t reflect on his ability to work so they might not. Now things are gonna be real awkward for you with the bosses you tattled to, the guy you tried to get fired, and any other coworkers learning that you can’t be trusted.

    NTA. That is 100% unprofessional.

That said, I’ve never traveled for work and had to share a room. That seems odd to me.

NTA, but don’t think someone should lose their job over it. Have a conversation and see how he takes it first.

  10. Fair_Theme_9388 Avatar

NTA, it’s especially weird since you’re his boss. Like does he not realize you can fire him? Besides it being awkward AF for you, it’s disrespectful.

Where did he even meet this chick, anyway?

  11. shubhaprabhatam Avatar

Sounds like you’re mad that he’s getting laid and you aren’t. Very petty of you to want to get him fired because you aren’t getting any. Lol.

NTA. Totally unprofessional. It feels like a lot of these comments are from teenaged virgins.

It’s okay to feel weird about it. You are being dramatic about the tools thing.

Barge into the toilet and drop a fat deuce? I won’t mind you if you don’t mind me.

  16. twoDuckNight Avatar

Even if you were best bros and this was a vacation, Id atleast expect a heads up. This is professional tho so a completely different level. Disclaimer: i am not in trades

Dude he cleaned the pipes and didnt even ask permission thats fucked up

  18. NYCStoryteller Avatar

NTA. This is totally unprofessional. If he wanted to get laid, he should have booked his own room. It’s bad enough that your company booked you to share a room in the first place, which is another conversation to have with HR, but if you are sharing a room on a work trip, it’s just common courtesy that there are no guests invited back to the room.

Did you call him out and tell him WTF?

I think you should tell him how inappropriate and unprofessional it was, and that if he’s decided he’s going to spend the week f–king around, he needs to go get his own room for the rest of the week on his own dime. Presumably you’re stuck with him until the end of the week since you’re out on a job with him.

  19. MrTash999 Avatar

NTA, nobody wants to hear someone else getting laid. It’s disrespectful and just plain weird, especially when you are sharing a room. He should have asked first before getting it on.

He should just use a public toilet!🤷‍♂️

  24. Ambitious-Angle-716 Avatar

How about instead of being dick and possibly getting him  fired … get this .. its a new thing… just talk to the guy! 🤯 mind blowing… just tell him it bothers you and go from there.  And your right.. quit being so soft!

  25. grayblue_grrl Avatar

    NTA…

Call your boss and ask for a separate room. Tell him why.

    You aren’t over reacting.

  26. Own-Profile5541 Avatar

Dude. I’m in the trades for 30 plus years. We might talk shit, and yell and have a few after work. This guy crossed the line. If you’re the boss you gotta lay down the law now. Have a serious conversation about being professional, with your guy. Or fire him. I’d definitely be laying down.
There will be no next time. Good luck

  27. throwawaydumbo1 Avatar

Just talk to him about it. Don’t be too quick to take food off a man’s table. If he’s being an ass after you’ve talked to him, then getting him fired is justified.

  28. idkwutimsayin Avatar

Ill probably get downvoted for this but I think you should talk to the guy before you get him fired.

My dad worked on the rigs, actually held a record in alberta for the longest directional drill for years. Worked all over the world before he died. He would tell me some pretty wild stories. Yours seems tame in comparison lol.

I think what he did is disrespectful, like most of reddit, but I think given your work environment its not something someone deserves to be fired over for a first offense if you’ve never told him. He’s new, this will be learning lesson for him either way. You can fuck him over or teach him proper etiquette.

  29. Any-Historian3813 Avatar

You’re not co-workers. You’re his supervisor. Pretty simple, you have to set the ground rules. These days respect has gone out the window everywhere. “My bad” seems to have replaced “I’m sorry”.

The bottom line is that we teach people how to treat us. The more we allow, the more they will push. Just like children.

  30. Princess_puff_pastry Avatar

That is incredibly disrespectful and I would encourage you to move forward with reporting him. That behavior should not be expected to be okay.
