Absolutely. I never thought we’d see creative processes being taken over by AI, yet here we are. I always expected AI to go the way of manual labor to take the burdens of physical work off our bodies, and yet.. -sigh-
What makes you think we are? Because even working in a tech related position, I don’t make heavy use of it. Neither does anybody else around me or hardly anybody else I know who doesn’t work in a related field.
Now, its there a lot of hype around it right now? Absolutely? Is the industry banking on it heavily and making big investments? Obviously. But I think you might be really, really overestimating how much average normal people are using it on a daily basis. Also lots of crap is started to get labelled “AI” that’s really just automation.
There’s already companies laying people off and replacing them with a single person doing the same job with AI. What happens to those companies when you pull the (metaphorical AI) plug?
What you’re seeing is a lot of pre-existing technologies cynically rebranded as “AI” and a lot of useless generative AI gimmicks being crammed into places where no one asked for it. It creates the illusion that everything is flipping over to AI all at once. AI companies NEED people to believe this because it is the only way that they can keep attracting investment.
Understand that while hardware makers are absolutely cashing in on AI spending, the AI business itself is losing billions of dollars a day. There simply isn’t enough demand for AI that people will actually pay money for. There’s no path to profitability, so the pitch for more capital boils down to “it’s everywhere, it’s inevitable.” The head of Open AI talks about how dangerous the technology could be if we aren’t careful. What a weird thing for an AI booster to say, right? Well, he says it because if he can convince people it’s potentially dangerous, that must mean it works!
There are all sorts of practical applications for AI, and I use some of them in my work to save time and enhance quality. But 90% of what you hear is hype spouted by people who need to raise more money and justify what they’ve already spent.
As many people are getting into serious relationships with chatbots and relying on chat gpt to do their thinking for them, the future is starting to look like a scifi horror movie
Every day we are going to use the tools more but we must find a way not to depend on AI, but now we all do our university work with AI, many do not but there are people who depend on these platforms
Yes, society definitely relies on AI without even realizing it, it’s not just on chatGPT but also from simple Google search suggestion to Spotify music recs and more.
I think it’s starting to pick up. More and more people are referring to it instead of doing their own research or writing. I just had a coworker use it to answer some questions from a boss without verifying the sources. It referenced a whole bunch of regulations that don’t even exist and made him look like a dumbass. It definitely has its place in certain applications but people are putting too much trust into it.
No. Nothing is actually reliant on AI yet. Any companies using it are able to backpedal. If they aren’t, they would have probably failed either way. Plenty of people using, researching and by proxy improving it, but it’s certainly not something we can’t get by without.
Yes. Engineering students are using it to write their English papers (our interns for the summer yay). They are lacking depth, and in my opinion, integrity for not doing the work themselves.
AI doesn’t produce amazing results as far as engineering goes, yet it’s being pushed hard by people (non engineers) who don’t really understand, or care about the inaccuracies.
Businesses are trying frustratingly hard to, and I HATE it because the tech isn’t there yet, is not being asked for by the average consumer, and is often dubiously unethical
If you think it’s bad now it’s going to get a million times worse. ChatGPT is nothing, AI will be used for literally everything.
People will effectively become slaves to artificial intelligence as we develop more advanced models that can map out their entire life and predict the best course of action to take at any turn.
I don’t know about too reliant. Our etiquette when using it as a tool is what needs taught and established. If it takes what I am trying to say and makes it more clear and concise, I see nothing wrong with that especially in a professional sense. I have also learned a lot using it regarding stylistics and how to be more concise in my writing. If you are a student though, schools can adapt programs to see exactly what you do to a document so it’s a non issue unless the educators are underfunded or lazy to adapt.

It’s a tool. It doesn’t provide anything I wouldn’t find at a slower rate with search engines, but it saves massive time.
Not yet, but the way the top defenders always have some bullshit excuse for it makes me think that will change.
Chat GPT yes. I know one friend who used it to create her resignation letter
Another friend who used it on me to complain about our project together
Another one who used it to type out a full length text to her in law but also used me to help her type one out to her boyfriend lol
Why can’t we just use our own words :,)
I don’t rely on that shit for anything. It sure is being shoved down our throats, tho.

I think the snowball is just now starting to get momentum down the hill.

Yeah, I asked AI what I should think about that too. Lol

I think we’re getting there quickly. I know way too many people using it for damn near everything in their professional and personal life.

No, just another program not even used as widespread as Facebook

This is a slippery slope
The internet was already a mistake before all the slop was aggregated and is now being spewed back at us
Yes, people always asking for my Instagram. Instead of asking for my number.
Businesses are trying frustratingly hard to, and I HATE it because the tech isn’t there yet, is not being asked for by the average consumer, and is often dubiously unethical
I am tired about it being shoved down my throat. I don’t need AI to touch every piece of technology I own.
AI hasn’t even been widely available for five years, slow down.
But yes I do think we’re headed in that direction
